Is A Bark Shock Collar Necessary?

New dog owners are sometimes unprepared to deal with common problems of newly adopted or bought dogs, such as excessive barking or barking at the wrong time. The most common solution is a bark shock collar but new owners often take a dislike to that word ‘shock’.

First of all, owners have to understand that the concept of "punishment" is different to dogs than it is to humans. The mild shock is a punishment delivered by the bark shock collar at exactly the right time for the dog to associate one with the other. With enough time, dogs eventually learn to refrain their barking so that they can avoid the punishment. The dog's natural resistance and thicker skin prevents it from feeling pain; in fact, it's the confusion caused by the static shock that makes it stop barking while it wonders what is happening.
