Where can i find a free / cheap / low priced Yorkshire terrier (Yorkie) puppy?

I live in Virginia, but i am willing to drive to get the puppy.

Happytulu is absolutely right if you can't afford to pay for the pup how are you going to pay for everything that will follow? food, vaccinations and other emergency/illness costs etc etc etc etc?

No dog is cheap when it comes to vet care and food. Go to your local animal shelter or a REPUTABLE breeder.

you wont find a highly desired purebred puppy for free.. just doesnt happen.

You might find one for a fair adoption fee thru shelter or rescue tho http://www.petfinder.com

Try your local shelters :) They may not be free but usually are for a low price.

Call your Humane Society. Nobody will be free. Or you can try a Yorkie rescue group in your area.

From a very poorly run breeder who does not care about his animals. Or you could try a pure breed rescue.

you won't if you can't afford a purebred puppy, then you can't be capable of paying for:
grooming
vaccinations
general vet exams
heartworm preventative
doggy diapers (if you should get a female)
toys
food
bowls
training
spaying/neutering

"There is no such thing as a free dog." Toys, vet visits, shots, food, treats…

If you can not afford the initial purchase price of a dog, then you should reconsider. Often small, toy breeds, especially heavily bred ones like yorkies, encounter costly health problems. You not only have to be able to afford the initial cost, but also the "maintenance" so to speak.

If your funds are limited, your best option is going to be to check with a rescue or shelter. Well bred, healthy pups are not cheap because breeding is not a cheap venture. Breeders have costs invested in their programs that they have to try to cover by charging for the dogs they decide to place–grooming and whelping supplies, the costs of stock, vet bills, medical testing, food, time, etc. It actually comes across as very arrogant and insulting when people approach breeders expecting a hand out or discount. It's as if saying the dogs are not worth the time and money that has been invested in them.

Search for a reputable breeder (which takes LOTS of time) and check out some shelters. In the meantime, conserve your funds. Everyone wants something for nothing, but it's not a very realistic expectation. I would like a free/cheap Mercedes Benz, but realistically, if I want one, I'm going to have to save up and buy one just like everyone else.
