Yorkie – I Am Gone for 8 Hours a Day and Come Home Everyday at Lunch?

he has his own space big enough to run…he is small…and walk around.

he has a crate in this area, if he wants to sleep

he has puppy pads down, he rarely uses them

he has a plate of food and water

my question is…should i do this? i mean he doesnt have free roam but he does have a space of his own…

at first i wanted to give him free roam but that wasnt a great idea….

give me input on this please
no i am not crating him in their 8 hours a day he is closed off and he does have a crate in there but for sleeping purposes

Your Yorkie will be just fine. When my little Shih Tzu was a baby, I baby gated her in my tile kitchen. She was just fine. I was also able to come home at noon to let her out and check on her. You are doing a great job with your Yorkie, so don't let anybody tell you different. The one thing I did do, was when my Tzu was 1 year old I adopted Lhasa Apso from the pound so she would have company. They are now inseparable, and I don't feel guilty leaving her alone anymore. However, don't get a second dog unless you can afford the best of care for 2 dogs. Keep up the good work, and good luck.

To clarify, you're asking whether or not to crate your dog, correct? Crating your dog is fine, as long as you can come home during lunchtime and let him out. Dogs should really only be left alone 6 hours a day, at maximum.

no u shouldnt do that..i have a yorkie myself and he's alot of work! he is still not trained to go on the puppy pads, so he sometimes goes on them and sometimes not…, but i mean you are supposed to let a yorkie outside to go to the bathroom every 2 hrs! i no insane, but thats the deal! they also need alot of attention, so u need to be there to play, and take care of him

I think that what you have is great, but if you think that your dog is too lonely while your gone; you should get another little dog. One thats from a shelter, and already house trained. You'll be giving your dog a friend and saving a life.
