Hi Dog lovers!!
I have a 1 yr old minature yorkshire terrier. Recently hes been scratching a few times a day on and off behind his ear on both sides. Hes had a haircut, bath and was de fleaded with a good spray. I Didnt think it was fleas because it was only behind his ears, and wasnt regular scratching, but he was treated for fleas as a precaution. i also treated the house and his bed. we feed hima mix of pedigree chum dry mix and wet food, but he seems to go a day or 2 without eating it, and than will eat the next day…. Can anyone please help me out.
he also throws up yellow foam (Bile) from time to time
Mark fed Cesear (Our mini yorkie) Some tuna and he ate it in a flash… what food can i feed him. He wont eat Supermarket brands, he goes on and off pedigree and has been sick before from being fed the wet food or the dry mix on its own. please help. i want to feed my dog something that he likes and thats good for him
Yorkie are prone to ear infections. If you have not had that checked out by a vet, that should be your first course of action.
Secondly, it is not uncommon for Yorkies to have food allergies to dry foods with high corn and grain content. It can even be something that develops over time and biting at paws and scratching ears is a sign of that. Check the ingredients in his food and gradually switch him to a better quality food–Wellness, Orijen, Blue Buffalo, Nature’s Balance, Timberwolf are all good brands that many Yorkie owners like.
I realize he is a year old, but has he every been screened for Liver Shunt? You may want to discuss that option with your vet as well.

Hi Mark & Celia,
I also have a Miniature yorkie, her names’ Holly.
It sounds as tho you dont have a tick or flea problem because you’ve treated your house and animal.
Sometimes the shampoo you use can dry their skin out.
My yorkie vomits too, it isnt uncommon also yellow bile. They do do it when they’ve eaten something that upsets them such as insects or the an adult dogs food can make them sick.
Yorkies are also known to be finicky eaters. Yes they dont always eat regular meals the best way I find is feeding them their daily amount split into 2 or 3 portions. Put it down in the morning, lunch and supper. If they dont eat it at a meal time pick the dish up.
It worked wonders with my dog.
Hope this helps.

I am writing because I have a little yorkie who has recently developed allergy problems. I think it is the grass, but there is no way to tell and I am not 100% sure of that. She had a little red rash and puss filled bumps all over her body. We took her to multiple vets and specialists and they all said it was just an allergic reaction. She took steroids, vitamins, special hair shampoos…everything. Nothing seemed to work. It only got worse. I finally decided change EVERYTHING. I first took her to the groomer and got a puppy cut. It has been much easier to control with the shorter hair. She doesn’t have all of the dirt and grime from being outside all over her coat and nails. I changed her food to a hypoallergenic all organic pet food. We chose blue buffalo chicken and rice for small dogs. You can get it at your local pet store or petsmart. It is a little more expensive, but is worth it. I was worried about her not liking it, but she loves it. I can’t even put it in her bowl before she is trying to get it from me. She had never been this excited about her dog food before. I bought mine at petsmart and if you get a petsmart rewards card it takes a few dollars off of the price. We also changed her shampoo to a hypoallergenic shampoo for dogs with allergies. We now use a shampoo called Perfect Coat. Her hair is so soft and shiny now. You can also find this shampoo at petsmart. It was about $6 or $7. Until the rash goes away I have been washing her about every 3-4 days. After that I will wash her once a week. As an extra precaution, I change my laundry detergent to a hypoallergenic one as well. I wanted to cross every “t” and dot every “i”. After months of searching and spending many dollars on vets and “remedies”. I think I have finally found one that works. I have seen a drastic improvement and it has only been three days. I am not a vet and cannot guarantee the same results for you. I wanted to share this with others who are having my problem. My dog is so much happier and healthier and I hope this works for yours as well.
One last note…the very first day I applied a 1% hydrocortisone cream to her rash. I applied it twice a day for two days to help relieve the itch. I watched her for about thirty minutes after I applied it to make sure she didn’t lick it. She never even thought twice about it and it seemed to relieve the itch almost instantly.
