My Family and I Really Want a Dog, Can You Help Us Decide What Type?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Hello, so let me tell you what type of dog we want. We want a small dog because that's the only type of dog our cat gets along with and because that's the only size my sister and I want (I mean Yorkshire Terrier-Beagle size). It needs to have not very very long hair, and not curly hair like a poodle's. I'm willing to brush it once or twice a day, a haircut about once every other month. It must be a very intelligent type of dog who can be trained easily (well it's impossible to train them easily, but you get what I mean? right…), as in potty training, sit, lie down, and stay. All the basic stuff. We want it to be adventerous and fun too be around, but will be calm if it wants to. Cute and cuddly, sort of like a lap dog at times. Plus, they can't have a short temperment!
We really like long haired Dauchsunds but we don't know if there right dog for us.
So, Thank you so much, for helping!!!!!!!!
Peace Love ShyShy!
no rat terriers they're ugly, and definitly no PUGS!!!!!
We aren't home 24/7 so it needs too be able too be alone for 3 hours than another three hours on weekdays just we're getting it during summer. so ya….

Take a look at English Springers – they're rowdy and fun sometimes, but really cuddly when you want them to be. Long silky fur, easy to brush but not a disaster, and generally clean, smart dogs. Make sure whatever you get is from a good breeder that breds for temperament – any breed can be a bad choice if you don't get the right one.

If you're up for a bit more hair, a low drive Australian Shepherd from the show lines can be a wonderful choice, as well.

we had a dauchound, they are so awsome!
Very play ful, funny, likes to sleep with you and sit on your lap, they love attention
Also, my aunt had a miniature collie, they are very nice, they dont have really long hair but they are long hair dogs,
They are a bit less playful then the dauchound but all dogs can be playful, another dog you can get is either a poodle or a shitzu.
Also, beagles are very nice dogs too.
    Just some suggestions, enjoy!

Why not a Westie (West Highland Terrier) — they are beautiful, sweet, loveable dogs!!! I had one and miss her. I would get another if I could.

    Dear Shy Shy,

All pets work best with humans who have similar lifestyles. If you are athletic and love to run (and most importantly, have time to run) then a high energy dog (like a beagle) is the dog for you. The MOST IMPORTANT aspect of ownership is the energy level and time committment that you and your sister can offer the new addition.

You can go the a website and comb through the characteristics like energy, kids, cats, to find the right breed for your family. Then, choose from there.

Good luck in your search and have fun with your new addition!

I would recommend maybe getting a lab mix ( a lab mixed with a little dog). Labs have great tempers. Other wise, any kind of spaniel.

There are some sites that help you choose a dog. They ask some questions and tell you which breed would work best for you. I found this one for you: http://www.puppyfinder.com/breedselector.php but there are plenty of others too. I've seen a few on different dog sites so you can do a search and find more.

  11. I agree with Pony Lover, rat terriers are the best!

Since you don’t want a rattie, I’d go along with the Jack Russell idea.

Good luck, just make sure you’re committed to the dog for the rest of their life when adopting and thanks for adopting and not supporting pupply mills!
