Regarding a Yorkshire Terrier's coat and grooming…?
My six month old Yorkie (AKC) has a shaggy look. When will she get the silky coat? Also, her head changed from black to blonde and the black hair on her back has some silvery looking hair under it. I plan to take her to the groomers for the first haircut soon but I was wondering if she will ever look smoother, not so shaggy like the "Benji" dog look. I brush her and bathe her regularly. Thanks.
Wow. The first two answers are completely opposite of each other. Need a tie breaker! Thanks.
Her hair will change and she will continue to develop her adult coat. Usually completely at around 1 1/2 yrs, give or take. If her color is breaking (the silver you say you see underneath) then it will more than likely continue to lighten and grow out. (This is typical with Yorkies.) Just be patient while she is in that scruffy stage.

It can take up to 2 years fo an adult coat to fully grow in.. she looks shaggy because she's shedding her puppy coat and her adult coat is growing in.
Her coat will change colors as she matures.. Yorkies are suppossed to do that.. she will turn blonde on her head, and the black hair on her body will turn to a steel-blue color.

sorry,it won't change, she will always look shaggy unless you keep her hair short.some yorkies are just that way, mine is 2 years old and is still shaggy.I brush him 2 or 3 times a day and he always looks like he just rolled out of bed lol.
