Yorkshire Terrier?
Okay, so now I know that teacup yorkies are just under grown pups and are usually unhealthy, obviously I don't want that. I have noticed that "regular" yorkies usually have short or long hair. Are they different types (short hair and long hair) or do they just get haircuts to keep it short? I would prefer the short hair type.
Its just hair cuts. Be prepared to trim your dogs hair quite a bit to maintain the cute puppy cut!

nope there are no coat variations people typically have their hair cut short. especially the ones that are just pets. but people who show their dog's have to have it long

there is only 1 type of yorkie. the short coat your thinking of is when their puppies their fur is all gruffy, and you can get it cut like that when he's older.
i think shorter looks alot cuter also not as much grooming that way!
also, thank god i don't have to repeat there is no such thing as teacup speech again!

The cut is called a puppy cut. basically it is cut to make it easier to maintain. My 3 yo shih-tzu is kept in a puppy cut so I don't have to comb her daily. She goes in about every 8 weeks for a trim.

i have a yorkie and they are just hair cuts if you want it to stay short when you notice its geting long cut it! another thing you may not know the color of hair untill its grown up if you buy lets say a black puppy all the black hair can stay, grow Grey , or grow black, how that happens is that if you see its turning Grey and you don't want him to be gray don't worry because there's a chance it will grow brown.

Haircuts, best way unless your showing, otherwise you will have mats and tangles and the dogs suffer & you will too.

You might be thinking of a Silky terrier, which can look amazingly similar to a Yorkie. Be aware - these dogs are not couch potatoes and need just as much exercise and training as a large dog!
