Well, SOMETIME in the future, I am going to get another dog. I now have a 4 month old Miniature Schnauzer/ Yorkshire Terrier pup. She weighs 8 lbs and she was much bigger than her litter mates. I would like to have a bigger dog in the future (I don’t know when).I’m okay at training and so is my dad. I would MUCH more want a dog that isn’t hard to train since I have only had two dogs and I was 10 when I had my other dog and it passed, (I am 13). What are some good and big dogs. My dad absolutely LOVES German Shepherds because of how loyal they are to their owners. Will a GSD be hard to train? What are some other good dogs? I was thinking Am Staff or APBT, but I think they would be hard to train to not be aggressive. Any suggestions? NO designer breeds! I suggested a Lab or Golden to my parents, but they shed TONS, my other dog was a black lab and we were always finding hairs all over.
I would like one that would get along with my Nellie. I know it prettty much depends on how you intruduce them but what ever.
My German Shepherd is only 9 months old and already knows:
Heel, sit, stay, down, speak, figure 8's between my legs, back up, chase tail, wait, swing, around, basically every basic obedience command you can teach a dog. He started in Obedience I and got skipped up to the CGC class after his FIRST class. He's also a TOTAL mama's boy and is insanely loyal to me.
Plus with dad already loving shepherds it will be much easier to talk him into it…Make sure though that you do your research and buy from a reputable breeder or GSD rescue. Most big dogs are prone to health problems such as hip dysplasia or elbow problems.
EDIT: Consider a Long-Coat GSD. They have less of an undercoat than the standard coats and therefore shed WAY less. It's easy as pie to clean up dog hair with Brasky as he doesn't shed much at all. Just when he's blowing his coat.

as long as they are associated around other animals and taken public around ppl often, there is minimal fear of aggression at all. APBT/AMM STAFF(same dog) can be a lil diffacult buyt once they learn it sticks and they are loyal to you till the end. even through abusive owners, hence why the were prize fighters in the past. Obeyed without question, loyal to the end. (I DO NOT SUPORT FIGHTING AT ALL, JUST A NOTE TO SHOW A POINT)

Labs shed a lot, yes, but GSDs shed DAILY. They need daily grooming, I’ve got two of them. Although they are very easy to train, in my opinion, they do need quite a bit of mental stimulation and exercise. Great, intelligent, loyal, strong, obediant dogs.
But if shedding is a huge turn off for you, you may want to look elsewhere.

I think am staff is good but once you get it you should teach it right away to not be aggresive.

I have to agree that Goldens Shed a lot, but it actually really isn't that bad. My mother said she'd NEVER want one because of how much they shed (and that was the only reason ), but we eventually got one, and it turned out the shedding wasn't even that bad!
I LOVE Great Danes. They are my favorite breed and are easy to train. It's har to know what you mean by 'Big Dogs', because there are Large Breeds, and then there are Giant Breeds, such as Mastiffs, Saint Bernards, Great Danes, Newfoundlands, Irish Wolfhounds, etc…
They are all Gentle Giants and are easy to train, kind and not aggressive dogs.
The best Large Breed dogs that I have ever met have been Goldens and Dobermans.
But, that's just my opinion. It depends on what you guys like, your personality and lifestlye.
If shedding is a big deal for you, then German Shepherds are probably not the right one, because they shed a lot — actually, a lot daily.
German Shepherds are Nice, Loyal and Easily Trained dogs, but they need a good trainer and leader, as well as a lot of stimulation for their minds, including exercise, playing, et cetera.

Stay away from any dogs that have a history of being hunters, especially with an itty bitty puppy like yours.
Dobermans are great family pets. They are EXTREMELLY intellegent and need a steady and firm hand in training because they can be very dominant. They are natural protectors and playful, but very compossed also. IMO, nothing is better then the regal Doberman.
My Doberman lived very nicely with my Shih-Tzu, they even cuddled at night to sleep.
