Dogs : Yorkshire Terrier ?

Interested in getting a Miniature Yorkshire Terrier , but I’ve heard in the past they have lots of medical issues such as bad teeth , legs , eyes etc..
Also I’ve heard they cry alot and can be snappy at times.
I’ve looked at some sites but i prefer to hear from a owner who has a Yorkshire.

Thanks for answering.

I know there is no such thing as a teacup Yorkshire it's all down to selective breeding dear I wasn't born in a bubble.
My yorkshire terrier is cross. I'm wondering about a full bred yorkie.

those Miniature Yorke’s are so cute it is up to you if you get one they are adorable you are lucky i would email a breeder and see what they say

There’s no such thing as a miniature yorkshire terrier. A yorkie comes in one size only. Yorkies can have health problems. Especially people selling “miniature” or “teacup” yorkies. Yorkies can cry and they can be snappy. But, then again, so can a lot of dogs. You could get a yorkie from a reputable breeder, they health test their dogs and they meet breed standards. Or you can rescue a yorkie.

I’m a dog groomer so come into contact with Yorkies every day. They are great little pets, but are real terriers and proper dogs. They do not want to be treated like babies as many owners do. This is why some become over attached, snappy and aggressive. I have never heard of Yorkies crying for no good reason. A lot depends on how you train them etc. They are prone to teething problems. The puppy teeth often don’t fall out and they are left with 2 sets of teeth. This is very common and can be easily sorted by a vet. As for other health issues – you can get that with any breed

I thought you already had an aggressive Yorkie toward your boyfriend. Perhaps you should deal with that issue first.

Selective breeding doesn’t make it good breeding.

I also have yorkie shitzu mix…. and she is wonderful. Her teeth, legs and eyes are fine. Mine actually has the runny eye from the shitzu not the yorkie side- but I keep her clean and trim out her eye hair.

My little girl- is not snappy she loves people and only cries when she wants something- normally for us to stop petting the cat and pay attention to her.

I can tell you- she is stubborn is all hell….. she pushes out her bottom lip and shows her bottom teeth and refuses to do what you want. We normally go in the back door and after getting the mail I wanted to go in the front- she out right refused. We always go throught the back door- so she threw a fit until I let her go in through the back. I think terriors are OCDC sometimes….

I have a 4lb. female yorkie. They are very easy to spoil, but you have to make sure they know who is boss of they will rule the house! I love my yorkie, but she can be snappy at times when she doesn’t get her way. She is better than she used to be, but she absolutely hates other dogs. I have had her around other dogs since she was about 3 months old, but she still hates them. She does love all people & kids, so that is the best thing. She is very smart & follows me around everywhere I go. They are very good companions, but they require a lot of attention & training (especially the smaller ones).

I have owned Yorkshire Terriers not miniature ones just the normal breed standard size, I always socialise them well and train them and I find them to be very loving, loyal and obedient dogs. You need to ensure the parents have had all of the relevant health checks and have valid certificates. They can have bad teeth so you should brush them daily (my dogs are all happy to have their teeth cleaned which ensures they have excellent teeth). A well trained well socialised Yorkie will not cry all the time or be snappy, they love a run in the park every day and like human interaction, I only leave my dogs for up to four hours a day and I spend a lot of time with them. I would not hesitate to own a Yorkie again they are wonderful dogs with a great attitude, they need their fur brushed on a daily basis (I keep the coat trimmed fairly short). Yorkies are also intelligent. I have other lovely breeds of dog who my Yorkie gets along with one of which is a large breed and I treat all dogs the same they all get the same amount of training and socialisation etc so they all turn out to be well balanced dogs. Yorkies can be very intense and very devoted to their owners.

i`m into German Shepherds (Alsations) … but , as with any breed of Dog or animal for that matter. , too much emotion and the wrong kind of `love` can create traits that are formed and hard to control.
don`t be put off by other peoples versions of what the animal can and can`t do/behave like , get one and treat it with Respect…!
(you wouldn`t put off at having a child just because some-one else`s child was bratty , would you?)
that way , you and the animal can become friends and any peculiar behaviour can be rectified before it gets out of control and becomes an established Attitude.

Good luck and if you find that you end up not enjoying this breed of Dog….find another and so on.

I’ve met a yorkie, well actually he was running around town and we held him while his owner came to pick him up. But he was really sweet and healthy from what I could tell. They’re adorable dogs.
