My daughter's friend has a miniature yorkshire terrier that is having puppies, should I choose a boy or girl?
My daughter's friend is going to sell us each a puppy when they are born. My daughter said she gets first pick & she wants a girl puppy so she can put bows in its hair. I asked her if there is a difference in behavior, or should I just get a boy since she is getting a girl or is that a bad thing because they will try to mate & that isn't allowed since they would be brother & sister?

if your sister gets a female, I would get the same. Littermates should get along well. I would have them both fixed before they are 6 months old.

Two females might have some problems, but if you raise them together from pups they should be fine. If you have a boy and a girl, there most likely will be mating, but you can prevent unwanted offspring by spaying and neutering. In the long end, the second pup's gender is up to you.

while I dont agree with supporting a back yard breeder..
opposite sex tend to get along better than same sex.
Siblings will try to mate when they get old enough, this isnt a good idea to allow them to mate.. but you can get them spayed and neutered to prevent mating.

First off there is no such thing as a "miniature" Yorkshire terrier.
And second, If you plan to give them a dime of your money.. you are being ripped off.

Yes…You will have MANY problems down the line, it's called inbreeding
Spay / neuter.
The gender is really up to you.

well i would recomend a male because if you get a female you have to worry about her staining things, and if she accidentally gets pregnant and you ask questions on yahoo answers, people are just gonna be tellin you stuff like" you're not a responsible breeder and you should know this stuff if you're breeding"…trust me…

Get the same sexed dogs. If you get siblings they will mate when you aren't looking and that is not good unless you are a breeder and have done all the tests to make sure you aren't passing along traits that shouldn't be. I would suggest getting males for the both of you if you aren't planning to spay the girls. Please do your homework before purchasing a dog of any kind. Bows are no reason to get a dog.
Besides, you can make more money renting it out for stud service and be safe than to have the girl having babies and running the risk of losing her because as you said, they are "miniatures". Any regular sized dog breed can have complications whelping and so miniatures can have much more devastating complications.

i just heard of a lady's dog dying after going in to early labor (and so did the five puppies she was carrying) because she didn't know what the heck she was doing.
if you spay female i think are the most affectionate ones.
