What's a small dog similar to a Husky but the size of a terrier?

I'm looking at buying a dog for my boyfriend for a present, and he's obsessed with huskys but his family won't approve of such a big dog considering they're used to miniature yorkshire terriers! so does anyone know any breeds that would be like this? (preferably one that doesn't shed - but that might be asking too much!)
do white pomeranians shed do you know?
in relation to BYB… you're wrong about this im afraid… "Yorkshire Terriers don't come in "miniature" sizes." yes they do, i live in ireland and my boyfriend has had many throughout his life, one even died because he walked into a cupboard for being so small and he was fully grown! i know the breeders of them
oh and also, the family have been looking to get a new dog and i will clear it up anyways! itll be going to a very loving home!

A white pomeranian they shed but they're small and have a great personallity

There is only one kind of husky, and they come in one size only. And huskies shed, big time. To find one that's terrier-sized and has minimum shedding, will be next to impossible.

First, don't get a dog as a present. More often then not, that ends terribly. Instead, your boyfriend can go to the animal shelter and look for a dog that fits his lifestyle. If he lives with his family, then they need to approve of the dog also.

Look into the American Eskimo Spitz, Norwegian Elkhound, or Keeshond. These are all husky like dogs that are more small to medium size.

well the simialr dogs are a Pomerianian, and a Sheba Inu. Both dogs are smal and furry but are mostly a reddish color. Please remember thot hat a husky and amost smallers dogs are going have VERY different character traits. If he is looking for more of that kind of character ( mood, itelligence, ease of training) then your not going to find that is a smaller dog. ALOT of smaller dogs are more active, tend to take longer to learn and have what is called the "napolean complex" meanign that becasue of ther small size they tend to be more fiesty and "snippy". Also if he still lives with his parents are they ok with another dog coming into the house ( any kind that is)?
These are all things to consider before getting your honey a new pet.

BYB's never think they are @ 2:20 pm

No responsible breeder sells a dog as a gift. They want to meet and interview the person who will be responsible for the dog.

Besides, the dog that bonds to you may hate your BF. What do you do then?

If you manage to find a breeder who will sell you a dog as a gift, then they may actually have a Siberian that's smaller. They breed low quality dogs, so who knows what the dog will be like.

Yorkshire Terriers don't come in "miniature" sizes.

Siberians are in the Spitz family. ALL spitz dogs shed a considerable amount.

An American Eskimo
Pomeranain
Alaskan Klee Kai

Could all be options. But, make sure that BF does the homework and uses a good breeder. Unless you like out of control dogs that bite and are loaded with health problems.

Added: No, they don't. Here's the KC link for Yorkies. http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/199 They come in ONE size. They are in the Toy group. In the FCI standard, which the IKC follows, they are in the Terrier group and come in ONE size. So, you tell me, who is wrong, the IKC, the KC, the FCI or you?

The breed your thinking of that looks like a small husky is called an Alaskan Klee Kai. Alaskan Klee Kai's are not non-shedding and have a very similiar coat the the husky's. They are also not smaller than a Yorkshire Terrier, in fact, their actually taller and weigh approx 15 pounds.

Buying a dog as a present is a terrible idea. A dog should only be brought into a home where everyone is in agreement. If he lives with his parents, then he really has no say. This could put the dog in a situation where it may have to be re-homed.

If he wants a dog, let him buy it himself. You can always buy the accoutrement's that come along with it, like bowls, leashes, treats. toys etc.

edit: Pomeranians do not come in white. Yorkshire Terriers do not come in minature. They come in one size recognized by the various kennel clubs.
