The Use of an Anti Bark Collar

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Is all dog barking bad? In fact, it’s normal and healthy for dogs to bark when they’re afraid. However, the time and frequency of the bark matters too. Constant barking can be really disturbing for everyone, especially when it occurs at inappropriate times. While you can choose from more options if you want to prevent your dog from barking, the Anti Bark Collar is one of the best.

The operation of an anti-bark collar is quite simple. The device includes a microphone and a battery. When your dog barks, this triggers a beep and a mild stimulus for discouraging the barking. Bark collars use either citrus spray or ultrasonics. Most dog owners who have tried both methods believe that the former one is the most efficient, because dogs can get used to ultrasounds.

Whenever you make an investment, you’re interested in whether your product is any good. If you set your eyes on bark collars, you can be certain they are worth the money. That’s particularly true of the citronella-based collar, since it includes an oil that originates naturally from a plant. Even ultrasonic sound could arguably be considered holistic since it basically imitates the effect of a shouting human. Curiously, the citrus spray does more than stopping the barking. For example, while a citronella-filled anti-bark collar can help to repel insects such as fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes, it won’t actually hurt or kill the bugs. This is a great product for environmentalists who don’t want insects to bother their dogs, still they dislike the idea of killing them.

All anti-bark collars are humane solutions. This is particularly true when it comes to the citronella collar. As a dog owner, you’ll want any pet product that you choose to be as humane as possible. Even though dogs don’t like the smell of citrus, this scent won’t do them harm. On the other hand, this can also be said about the ultrasonic sounds. They can be heard only by your dog (and other dogs as well), they disturb it, but they don’t hurt it at all. Since the animal is important to you, you will obviously try to protect it. Therefore, pick an anti-bark solution that won’t hurt it. Even though there are many efficient products, you should find one that is also safe for the pet.

Yet another benefit of an Anti Bark Collar is that it’s effective. As consumers, one of the most important questions we have about any type of product is: does it work? Amazingly, some scientific studies have revealed that anti-bark collars can be effective in preventing up to 90% of your dog’s unwanted barking. Obviously, not all these products fall into this category. For this reason you need to do your homework before you go shopping.

Almost all anti bark collars are rather cheap. The price of the product depends on various factors, and particularly the anti-bark method that it uses. If you do a good research, you can even find a good product at prices under $100. That’s a plus in today’s sluggish global market.

Effective Training at a Distance With the Remote Dog Training Collar

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

Effective training for proper behavior can often be difficult without the dog on a leash. Even if you want to use a leash, you will not be able to use it everywhere you are going with your dog, and the longer the leash is, less effective is to use it. In order to overcome the deficiencies of leash training, and the lack of training skills of most dog owners, experts in animal behaviour developed a useful training tool – the Remote Dog Training Collar.

It is quite simple to use such type of collar because, just as its name implies, it can be operated via remote means, and you will be able to train your dog without the help of any kind of physical containment measures, as are the fenced yards or some long or extensible leashes. All the electronic remote dog training devices are basically composed of two main parts, the collar and the transmitter, both of them needed when you want to train your dog..

While you are holding the transmitter in your hand, your dog must wear the collar around its neck. Certain buttons on the transmitter can be pressed to send the signal to the collar to deliver a specific type, level and intensity of aversive stimulus like a beep or an electric shock or both in succession. Your dog will soon associate the unpleasant sensation of receiving an ultrasonic vibration or a mild electric shock with his bad behavior.

The use of the remote dog training collar offers numerous benefits including but not limited to the following:

• Many owners say the life of their dogs was saved by these collars. Almost all of us heared of car accidents involving dogs running toward the road while their owners were not able to stop them using vocal commands. Or it may be that the dog starts to chase other animals that may put either one’s life and limb in danger.

Through the transmitter, the owner commands the delivery of the desired stimulus. The dog will then be startled by the shock and stop on its tracks, thus, saving both its life and limb along with those of other animals or people.

• You don’t need a leash or fenced yard to train the dog. We all want that our dogs to run free, to interact with their surroundings, to socialize with other dogs and familiarize themselves with other people. Proper socialization is important for the development of your dog.

While beeing in nature or in a public park, you can train your dog good behaviour or monitor his activity without the need of a leash. In fact, the training collar acts as an invisible leash, through which you can control his actions by pressing a single button, stopping any type of inappropriate behaviour he might have.

At what distance is the a Remote Dog Training Collar working? There are different models, and they are effective up to between 100 and 500 yards. Now, that is going the distance in effective dog training.

The Remote Dog Training Collar overcomes the deficiencies of leash training . The Remote Dog Training Collar is effective up to between 100 and 500 yards. You can train your dog wherever you want.

Yorkshire Terrier Care

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

Yorkshire Terriers, more commonly known as Yorkies, are one of the most popular toy dog breeds. They make great companions and love attention! They are very affectionate but demand plenty of time and devotion from their owners.

This breed is only about 100 year old. It was developed in northern England to catch rats that lived in mine shafts. It was also used as a hunting dog that could go into fox and badger burrows. It is not clear, however, how they developed this breed. It is thought that they came from crossing terriers like Skye and Clydesdale with other terriers such as the Leeds, Maltese, Dandie Dinmont and the Black and Tan Manchester. The Yorkie breed was originally much bigger than it is now, but people have selectively bred the smallest dogs to make this dog tiny. It became a fashion dog and was often carried around by women in their bags. Today, the average weight of this dog is seven pounds.

The Yorkie has as very silky, long coat that parts at the spine and grows down either side of the dog. Unlike many other breeds, the hair of this breed does not stop growing. It needs to be cut regularly. It also does not have an undercoat which prevents it from shedding. This is great if you suffer from allergies because you won’t have to worry about hair being everywhere. The coat is blue and tan, but puppies are black and tan. As the dog matures, the black becomes blue.

Although the Yorkie is very small, these dogs seem oblivious of this. They don’t seem to be scared of anything! They are very adventurous, energetic, loyal, playful, brave, sweet, loving and intelligent. Yorkies are extremely affectionate with their owners but are often suspicious when strangers come around. If other small animals come around, they can even be aggressive. This breed is very dependant and demanding of its owners. It needs more human attention than most breeds. This dog makes a great lap dog and enjoys being held all day more than anything.

The Yorkie doesn’t do well with small children but is tolerant of older children if they treat the dog with care. The dog can be territorial and likes to have its own space. Yorkies learn things very easily but can become willful which sometimes makes training difficult. You must be consistent and firm when training. They also can be difficult to housebreak. This breed does best with praise because they love attention and hate to be ignored.

One of the most demanding requirements of this dog is grooming. It needs to be groomed every day. The coat needs to be brushed and the eyes and ears need to be cleaned. Also, the teeth should be cleaned regularly. The hair on top of the head is usually tied back with a bow or band.

Because of the Yorkie’s small size, it is very fragile and needs to be treated with care. It can get hurt very easily and must be watched. They are also prone to teeth problems so you need to make sure you take care of their teeth.

This dog makes a great companion that will give you lots of love. Just make sure you have the time to devote to this dog as they do require lots of your time. If you care for the dog properly, it can live for twelve to fifteen years.

The Yorkshire Terrier

Saturday, May 7th, 2011

Don’t be fooled by the size of this breed, the Yorkshire Terrier, or Yorkie, is a feisty and fearless dog. Today, this breed is viewed as a glamorous and fashionable pet and is recognizable by its characteristic long, silky coat of steel bluish and tan hairs.

History
This breed dates back a little more than 100 years when the Waterside Terrier, Paisley Terrier and Manchester Terrier were crossbred in England to create a new breed of Terrier. The Yorkshire Terrier became popular in the US in the late 19th century. This breed was originally created by working men to chase rats and penetrate fox holes and burrows made by badgers.

Appearance
Classified as a Toy breed, the Yorkshire Terrier has a long, silky, straight and fine coat that usually falls almost to the floor on both sides of the dog. The coat is a steel blue on the tail and body with tan hairs on the head, muzzle, ears and lower legs. The ears are v-shaped and help erect. The tail is usually docked to half its length and is carried level with the back. The muzzle is not very long, with a black nose. This non-shedding breed is good for people with allergies.

The body of the Yorkie is compact and well-proportioned, with a straight back and a flat head. This breed grows to about 7-9 inches in height and weights about 7 pounds at adulthood.

Temperament
Yorkshire Terriers are bold and independent dogs, full of energy and eager for adventure. They are intelligent and easy to train, with the ability to remember a multiple commands. Often described as feisty, the Yorkie makes great competitors in sports and agility activities. Although these dogs are famous for their independence, they do crave the attention of their owner and are very loyal and affectionate companions. They do not take easily to strangers or new dogs and can become aggressive. On the other hand, this trait makes them excellent watchdogs. This breed is not recommended for very small children.

Bold and inquisitive, the Yorkshire Terrier likes to be busy and is eager to play, and often gets into all sorts of high jinks.

Health
Due to their size, Yorkshire Terriers have a tendency towards fragile bones and falls or high jumps can often lead to joint problems. This is also why this breed is susceptible to paralysis of the hindquarters. Some Yorkies might be prone to bronchitis, while others might have delicate digestion. It is best to avoid exotic treats for this breed. Since this breed often experiences early tooth decay, their teeth need to be cleaned regularly by a Vet. The smaller “teacup” Yorkie is more prone to health and behavioral problems.

Regular grooming is extremely important for this breed, although it does not shed. Daily brushing is recommended, with regular trimming if required. Since the hair on the head grows long, it is usually tied with a bow or band to allow the Yorkie to see better and to prevent the hair from falling into the food while it eats.

The life expectancy of the Yorkshire Terrier is 12 to 15 years.
