Are My 2 Puppies Fighting or Playing?

I just got an 11 week old teacup yorkie (she is tiny) Then acouple of days later my husband brought home an 11 week old maltese. THey were both from the same pupply palace. They assured my husband they would be fine together! It seems to be a nightmare! I cant tell if they are playing or fighting. I have them in a pen together and when they are sleeping they are fine but the minute they wake up they go at it. I have to sit in the pen with her to get her to eat beacuse he will devour her food and it seems once he touches it she wont eat anymore of it. Now she appears to have a little bald spot starting on the top of her head. WHen I let them out to run I have to hold him just so she can run around – he's like a big bruiser and she is just so tiny. I think I'm crazy for having 2 puppies at once. LOL He is very feisty and full of energy. I'm thinking maybe I need to seperate them BUT then when I do they want to be with eachother. Nighttime is nightmare they are up all night. HELP

First of all, NEVER believe what a pet store tells you about the dogs they are selling without resdearching it for yourself. They are in it for the money and sell dogs that have likely come from a puppy mill!

Secondly, don't keep the pups together in a pen. They need separate time, especially if the Maltese is being a bully. If you are trying to crate train the dogs, they each need a separate crate. Believe me, they will still recognize each other and play, but should never be left alone together!

Pups do play very roughly, and if you are concerned for the yorkie's welfare, you need to stand by and watch they're playing. If she yelps, separate them for a while. The maltese will associate her yelping with them being separated and will eventually tone it down some.

In the meantime, just watch them when they are together. As for the bald spot, keep an eye on it. It may be that the maltese pulled hair out, but with a pet store puppy it could be the begininnings of something serious ike mange.

I think your husband is having an affair. He is trying to distract all your attention to the two fighting dogs.

Puppies play rough this is how they learn to get along with other dogs and people. It looks worse than it is. At night they should be in separate crates. Better for crate training and will give them each their own "den".

It is normal for puppies to play and fight.
They are going to do this. It is just them interacting with each other.
My adults look and sometimes sound like a dog fight in the yard and they are only playing no one has any marks on them or bleeds. But they grab each other and throw each other down and bite and growl. Just the way some dogs play.
It sounds like puppy play like they would do with their litter mates.
Just make sure no one is getting hurt.
If so you may need to keep them seperate.

Sounds like one dog is trying to show their dominance over the other.I think you should call the puppy palace and ask what they think you should do. Maybe you should feed them outside their pen, one at a time and see how that works. Good Luck !!! But it seems like fun to me

It could be both, I have a border collie and a yourkie-poo. and they get along fine. in fact the border collie is scared of the yourkiepoo!! HAHA. But it sounds like to me that maybe their playing and the big one gets a lil tooo rough! I hope I help a lil but I'm not sure either.

Puppies get rowdy, especially with another puppy around to get into trouble with. After a while you should be able to tell pretty easily the difference between fighting and playing…just by hearing the kind of barking they are doing. Its totally normal for puppies to bark at each other, jump on each other, chase each other around and yes even bite each other. You just have to make sure the maltese isn't hurting the yorkie when he thinks hes just playing.

Puppies are CRAZY, especially two together. You do need to seperate them sometimes, take them on seperate walks, give them seperate crates or cages to sleep in, and do training seperately. But they should be fine just running around the yard together.

The biggest key is establishing that YOU are the pack leader…not one of them. Don't let the maltese beat up on the yorkie…but playing is fine.
