Need help with a puppy?

I am getting a teacup yorkie puppy. I would like all the info. i can get. WIll it get bigger? Can i keep it outside? Is a dog house better or cage? What do i need to know?

Like the person above me said, there is no such thing as a teacup. Teacup is what a bad breeder says when he wants to sell you the runt of the litter- the one that will probably have the most health problems. =/

You should get a crate and crate train it, it will work wonders for when you're not home. Make sure you won't be home too long, or you'll come home to a soiled crate and a confused, stinky puppy. Walk it every couple hours, as puppies cannot hold it in as long as older dogs can, and if you want, train it with puppy pads.

Make sure you take your pup to the vet to make sure s/he doesn't have any health problems. You should talk about it to the breeder, because if it does, you should be able to take it back. Make sure to get its shots (deworm, parvo, etc) before you let it out on grass.

I think its best that your yorkie stays inside, yorkies are small, tiny dogs, and especially since its a puppy- they need to be watched out for as much as they can be. Depending on where you are, it could be too hot/cold for them.

Spay/neuter your pup. It has shown that a spayed/neutered dog can actually live longer and has a decreased risk of cancer. If its a girl- it won't leave a mess (she will bleed for 10 days) and she won't attract ANY dogs. Even if you have a fenced yard, male dogs can actually sense a female dog in heat from miles away, so you might find some stray dogs in your yard- and an impregnated dog. :/
If you have a male dog- he won't leave his mark, his behavior will change (will be less aggressive with other dogs, since theres no competition for a female), and your chances of losing him decreases since he's not roaming for a mate.

Do you have all you need? You should have: a leash, pet tag, collar, puppy food, puppy pads (if you want), a crate, puppy toys (is a must if you don't want your pup to chew up everything), a pet bed, etc.

Thats all I can think of for now, besides that, good luck!!! Congrats on your pup =)

there is no such thing as a "teacup".. that is just a back yard breeder term for an unhealthy runt, so they can sell it for a higher profit.

If its a puppy, it will get bigger.. not by much, but it will grow.

No, you cannot keep it outside. Small dogs do not do well outside. They do not tolerate cold well, and have no protection against wildlife. Small dogs are often stolen if left outside unattended.

what do you mean dog house or cage? Buy a crate to use in the house.. dont leave it outside.

yes, the dog will grow a little bigger as it gets older….but not that much since it's a yorkie. i think it's best to let your puppy sleep inside. puppies need to stay where the temperature is nice and warm. don't let your puppy sleep alone either. putting the dog bed in your bed room would be the best idea.

-There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie

-They are a small breed by standard

-NO they are NOT outside dogs

-Crate training is a useful training technique

What do you need to know?

That there is no such thing as a "Teacup" anything. Maybe adopt a standard Yorkie at your local shelter or Rescue.

You need to know dogs take CARE, lots of time, training, exercise, socialization, and patience.

They are not toys. Don't get a dog if you're going to leave it outside.

First of all there is no such thing as a teacup dog –just read the link I've provided.

Yes the puppy will get bigger but not by much. If anything it will double in size.
NO! you cannot keep it outside unattended. If you do then he/she could become prey to a bird etc. Plus, why would you even think about keeping it outside?! Dogs should be in the house, especially small dogs because they become attached to their owners.

I agree with everyone else on their opinions.

If you are getting the dog from a breeder and they use the term teacup then run far away. There is no such thing and people just use that term to sell a sick dog for $1,000 plus dollars, also there is no such thing as a free Yorkie and never send a money order, and stay away from pet stores. Personally wouldn't leave a small dog outside all the time un attended and un leashed because they can be snatched up by a hawk or even a vulture.

For the best information out there on Yorkies I recommend going to http://yorkietalk.com/ signing up for an account to read about the good and the bad, and ask lots of questions.

There is a thread on that forum that lists the experiences people have had with bad breeders with the breeders name and contact information.

Also there are good breeders on there that sell puppies or people who might live in the area you do that can refer you to someone.

Yorke's are cute but they sometimes come with health issues such as luxtating patella, liver shunt & congenital heart failure, also there blood sugar can run low so you always have to keep a sugar supplement on hand.

If you want to read up on the history of yorkies & care you can visit that forum and read all about it here:

Good luck with your search, Im getting my yorkie baby in 6 weeks.
