In the UK people …
In the UK people refer to smaller yorkshire terriers as minatures or teacups. I don't believe that all breeders try and 'trick' people into thinking that they are getting a 'super small puppy' its simply a term used to describe their size - some do but not all - in fact not even the majority do. Common sense would tell us that you can't predict a puppy's size until its fully grown anyway!!!
There is no such …
There is no such thing as a "Teacup Yorkie". Don't be scammed. Check with AKC if you don't believe me. Yes they are in the "Toy" group. But by no means is there a breed named "Teacup Yorkie".
(CONTINUED FROM …
(CONTINUED FROM BELOW): A GOOD and REPUTABLE breeder though, does NOT intentionaly breed for "tiny" Yorkies as they do not meet the AKC standard and breeding intentionally for "tinies" does not better the breed. The only term that the AKC recognizes (and uses) is the word "Toy". Please steer clear of ANY breeders claiming that they are selling you a rare and true "Teacup" Yorkie. I can promise you that the price will be outrageous, and you WILL NOT own any "rare" or "special" Yorkie.
(CONTINUED FROM …
(CONTINUED FROM BELOW): These terms are sometimes used to describe the "size" of a Yorkie (or other small dog) however, the AKC (American Kennel Club) does NOT recognize the term "Teacup", "Micro", or "Tiny". The AKC says that a Yorkie should weigh between 4-7 pounds, however, occasionaly - breeders will have puppies that turn out to be very small, which cannot be helped.
I own 2 Yorkies. …
I own 2 Yorkies. Just so you know, there is no such thing as a "Teacup" Yorkie. The term "Teacup" is a term used by breeders to simply raise the price of a Yorkie and make you THINK that you think you are getting an "extra special" "tiny, mirco, super small" one so to speak. There is also no such thing as a "tiny" or "mirco" Yorkie.
I was thinking of …
I was thinking of getting a teacup yorkie, but someone told me that they collapse from hypoglycemia and that they are not healthy because of their size. Is that really true? Please respond back!!!!
