I am looking for a small dog. One that is playful and that I can take places with me, I am wayyy to small for a big dog. I'm just wondering, which has a better temperment, won't tear up my stuff, and doesn't bark too too much and is easier to train
Well, excellent question. Each dog within the same breed differ from each other. Every dog needs a training. Keep these in mind. Now its all up to your personal preference. Finding a good breeder to buy a dog from is more important than finding a dog. Because good breeder will always be there to assist you for any question or concern you may have while you and your dog develop a long lasting loving companionship. I would look around and spend some time with these two breeds that you are interested, and ask breeders many question.

There is NO such thing as a "teacup" ANYTHING.
There are, however, miniature Dachshunds. That is how the breed is divided, either standard or miniature, depending on the weight.

do not get a minature daschund or teacupo yorkies. neither are registered breeds as they are too small for their own good. Backyard breeders are the only ones who breed them. It is not natural and the dog will have lots of bone and back problems. They also tend to die at an early age. Get a proper breed.

I love Yorkies. but I've heard their hard to house train.

Teacup yorkie all the way. A Maltese is also good, or a Jack Russell Terrier. Not as small as the others, but still a good little dog that will "want" to be with you. Good luck and spoil that little one as much as you can.

As some of the others said, do not get roped in to buying a dog described as teacup. Yorkies are toy sized dogs & if it's called a teacup, there's something not right.
Yorkies are sweet & when trained properly can be very nice little dogs. Keep in mind, it will need to be groomed on a regular basis & please keep an eye on its teeth & skin as they seem to have problems with them.
Daschunds can also be good dogs. Again, once properly trained. They don't need regular grooming (professionally) but they need to be bathed & brushed. They tend to have problems with their backs & legs so no jumping, sitting up (on their backside) or excessive weight.
Remember pups do not come pretrained so you'll need to be patient & give it time to get out of the puppy stage.

My Squirt is a daschund and has the best personality of any other dog like her.But Daschunds have problems with their back, causing their back legs to be paralyzed, and they sometimes lose their bladder function.
Sometime too tiny is just that too tiny.Don't know about a Yorkie, just either way will you be able to take care of it?
Just asking, but someone hate that her dog barks. Well, that's what dogs do!

There is no such thing as a teacup Yorkie. By standard they are not to exceed 7 pounds, so you don't get smaller than a Yorkie. They are ALL already "teacup."
As far as which is better, it depends on how you raise them. They are both good breeds, but all dogs, especially puppies, are going to be chewers naturally unless they are trained not to do so.
With barking, that has more to do with personality more than breed, so get the breed YOU like best, and just be ready to train it to act the way you want it to.

I agree with the above, This the 2nd question today about "Teacup" puppies.Try a Maltese Terrier, they are really cute and friendly.good temperment too.

From my experience Daschunds tend to chew even when given chew toys, my best friends dog averages about three shoes a week. And Yorkies tend to yap a lil more than I like. Don't get me wrong I likeall dogs regardless of breed but in the categories you instructed you didn't want these breeds hit at least one as a bad trait. But also remember not all dogs have to same behaviors. My Jack Russell doesn't bark, is VERY Hyper and playful, a cuddler, and smart easily potty trained. Also you should do a google search for different breed names, so you can see pictures and read about their general habits and temperment. Here's a few more small breeds.. Chihuahua, Pekingnese, Maltese, poodle, Rat Terrier, Fiest, There's many more and try looking at your local shelter and seeing if they have any small dogs sometimes mix breeds are the better companion.

Good Luck!
I have owned both. Go with the Dachshund! Yorkie's tend to be lazy and not very smart. My Dachshund has a personality all her own. She is very smart. She is very playful and very easily trained. They are also easier to care for. Yorkies have to be bathed constantly and brushed. Dachshunds don't need bathed often and don't have long hair(unless you want a long hair). All puppies will tear up anything and everything until they are at least 2 years old.
