Why does it bother people when someone describes a tiny yorkie as a teacup?

Everyone knows there is no such thing as a teacup yorkie and this is just a way of decribing a extremely small yorkie puppy.

I think what bothers people most is that when they say that they have an AKC Teacup Yorkie.

Besides, Yorkies are already small enough. Why does one need to identify one as being "teacup"? It really doesn't matter what the problem is with the dog… it's still a Yorkie.

BCs Do It With Intensity @ 12:07 pm

Because it's more accurate to say poorly bred, genetically unhealthy, will die early, will cost you a ton in vet fees, bred by a moron dog

Because they are the unhealthy yorkies and some idiots are deliberately trying to breed them smaller and smaller because people like the name "teacup"

It only bothers us because people are breeding sickly dogs and making a fortune out of people.

No, not everyone knows that. They should call it an undersized Yorkie, or just plain Yorkies are small. Puppies of course are extremely tiny, so they should just call it a Yorkie Puppy.

When someone describes their dog as a Teacup Yorkie, I know right then and there they were bilked for a couple hundred more $$ by some dishonest breeder or pet store(all pet stores are dishonest). Had the breeder(barf) or pet store not called it a Teacup Yorkie, they wouldn't have been able to bilk as much money out of the customer.

Edit: AKC doesn't recognize teacup sized anythings.

"Teacup" is a term created by folks in the business of making money breeding dogs…. and a fancy way to get $2000 for a runt. People are suckered all the time.

The Yorkie standard DQs anything over 7 lbs. Therefore, anything under 7 lbs. is a standard-sized Yorkie.

Beyond this, what difference does its size make? Why would you have to "describe an extremely small" Yorkie puppy, which will grow into a standard sized Yorkie anyway?

Any breeder feeling the need to label their dogs as such is trying to market to the gullible.

All puppies are small. Small breed puppies are smaller. It's not rocket science.

Because you can say poorly bred, will die early.

When you ever come across the word "teacup" don't fall for it.

It's just plain ignorance. It bothers those of us who actually research and understand a pet before purchasing it. Those who purchase a "so called" teacup do not realize the process that these irresponsible breeders ( if you can call them that) put these animals through. As far as a runt it is just the smallest dog of the litter, but a teacup Yorkie is the product of cross breeding. Cross breeding occurs when two dogs of the same family are bred ( e.g. mother & son, father & daughter, etc.). People who purchase these dogs do not understand the issues these dogs have, that range from physical problems and lower life expectancy. I hope this answers your question.

my yorkie is only 3lbs and it pisses me off when people call her a teacup - actually it pisses me off more when someone I meet calls their own yorkie a teacup.

Yorkies are supposed to be 4-6 pounds. If they are smaller, they probably have a liver shunt.

If you have a Yorkie you should check out dogform.com
