Do Teacup Yorkies Have a Lot of Health Issues?

Monday, May 2nd, 2011

I really want a teacup yorkie, but im scared they will have health issues and get broken boens easily!

The only breeder that you can count on for having healthy teacup yorkies is the one I will link before.

I will say though that if you are not careful these Teacup Yorkies can be broken easily.

I am looking into Coffee Cup size dogs to see if they may be a little more sturdy, and if not perhaps Beer Stein size dogs.

Is There Anyone Who Sells Tiny Teacup Yorkies for Cheap Around Chicago Area?

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

Bethany is right. Any Teacup Yorkie breeders are just a scam, and are really puppy mills. Look on Petfinder.com because there are a lot of dogs on there that are looking for good homes! Who knows, you might find another dog breed that you really like on there! Also, you can check at your local animal shelter and see if they have any regular Yorkie dogs there. =]

Is a Teacup Yorkies a Good House Dog to Have?

Monday, December 6th, 2010

im thinking about getting my daughter a teacup yorkies for christmas she only 9months i really wanted to make sure there good with babies and is they health and do they live a long time

There is no such thing as a TEACUP yorkie. They are all one size type dogs. They are very great dogs though, I have one. She is super smart. Loves to cuddle, play, and learn new things. Her most favorite thing to do is ride in the car. She will cry and cry when we leave the house if she doesn’t get to go, she is normal though when we get home and you can tell she just went back to laying around once we left. She will do anything to get to ride with us. She can do whatever trick you try to teach her in like 5 mins flat. She listens very well about everything. Great dog!

Teacup Yorkies in Kentucky or Near Kentucky?

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

I want to get a teacup yorkie..I need a pretty decent price but i know its hard to come by..if you know of any breeders or shelters or anything like that, that have teacup yorkies I would greatly appreciate it thanks! (:

There’s no such thing as a "teacup yorkie." Yorkies come in one size and it’s pretty small. Anyone who claims to be selling "teacup yorkies" is peddling poorly bred runts and you should stay far, far away.

Petfinder.com will help you find yorkies in shelters and breed rescues in your area fairly easily, with both adults and puppies. Or you can visit the breed club (www.ytca.org) and find information about quality breeders. It’s worth noting that the YTCA bans its members from using "teacup" to describe their puppies; like I said, if you come across a breeder that does, it should be a major red flag.

Is There Anyone Who Sells Tiny Teacup Yorkies for Cheap Around Chicago Area?

"Teacup" Yorkies are never "cheap, no matter where it is in US." "Normal" tiny Yorkies go for about $1000.00 – $1500.00. Smaller, "teacup" sized ones can go anywhere from $1200.00 – $2000.00! If you really want to get one, you should research reputable breeders. If you only think about cheaper price and get one from a dubious source, it can turn out to be a disaster. A lot of these puppies get sick and die. No money is worth the heartache, sadness, and feeling of guilt of losing a puppy.

Try contacting a Yorkie rescue in Chicago. You may not be able to find one right away but it is worth a try. They have many, many cute little Yorkies! :) And adoption fee usually is only about $200-$300. You can even tell them you are looking for a very small sized Yorkie and ask them to contact you when they have one. I hope this helps.

Is It Healthy for Teacup Yorkies to Have Babies?

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

One person said that it’s unhealthy because of how small they are,but another one said that it’s perfectly normal. I just don’t know, what do you guys think?

There is no such thing as a Teacup Yorkie. What you really have is just a runty Yorkshire Terrier.
Dont breed it, because it is already unhealthy. That what teacup is, a marketing gimmick for an unhealthy puppy.
1. It cost 2000 dollars or more for a healthy litter. Complications could rise the cost up to 4000 or more.
There is no such thing as an accidental breeding. If one brings a dog into their home and does not take surgical matters to prevent breeding, then the responsible thing to do would be to learn the signs of heat and keep their female away from male dogs. It is not hard to prevent pregnancies. The moment you notice heat, you just dont allow your dog outside off lead or without supervision. Avoid public places and intact male dogs, keep the female inside when she cant be supervised. If she becomes pregnant, 99.99 % of the time it is due to owner error.

You dont just breed because you want puppies, you breed because you have the money, know what you are doing and are breeding healthy.
What you need to know:
The best time to breed your bitch.
How to select a stud dog.
What health tests are important to have before breeding.
When a bitch or stud should not be bred.
What a breeding contract is, how you write one and what should be included.
How long a bitch is pregnant, what she should be fed.
Signs of labor, what a whelping box is, whelping tools, and whelping arrangements.
Signs of complications, when a c-section is needed.
What Primary/Secondary Inertia is, oxytocin, meaning of green fluid, breach birth.
When to call a vet.
How long it will take, how long is too long.
Puppy resuscitation.
Signs of puppy progression, signs of problems, birth defects.
Mastitis.
Bottle feeding, when to remove from mother (emergency).
Fading puppy syndrome.
Weaning, vaccines and wormings.
Choosing homes, matching people to pups.
Buyer/Seller contract, genetic guarantee, spay/neuter clauses, return to breeder.
Pup will not inherit all of mom’s genes. The pup may not, in fact be anything like its mother. There is a stud dog involved in this too

Costs:
Costs always vary, but here are estimates.
Genetic Screening- OFA hips, CERF eyes, BAER heart, and thyroid totel around 400 or more.
Health Screening- brucellosis about 50
Stud Fee- 300 plus or pick of litter
Whelping supplies- 100 + per litter
Bitch vet fees 100 +
Pup vet fees 500 +
Food and registration- 200 + per litter
C-section 800 +
Formula and other pup care 100 + per itter.

Breeding and Shelters-
Most dogs or puppies are just dumped when homes cannot be found. Or surrendered by owners who got the animal as a gift or for their child and didnt bother to see if it would match their lifestyle. "We just want 1 litter" say this dog is a Lab, a very common breed in shelters. It could successfully give birth to 7 pups and all 7 are rehomed. Lets say all 7 pups have owners who just want one litter. All those animals could produce 7 more pups. That could make 56 dogs in one years time. And thats only if they bred their dogs once. Imagine if they wanted another litter or wanted to profit off their dogs?
Guess where they might end up- In shelters or not in loving homes.

Responsible breeding doesnt stop whe you rehome the pup, it continues on to make sure that pup stays where you put it and is healthy for 10 years + of its life.
If a person cant keep a puppy, then you take it back no questions asked. Responsible breeding does not allow for pet quality pups to be bred.
If you are not a show or working dog breeder, than no breeding should be allowed unless genetic testing is done on all dogs involved- though in reality hobby breeding- the breeding of non-show and non-working dogs- is only 1 step up from irresponsble breeding.

Myths-
"My dog will make a great mommy and will have beautiful puppies"
So now humans are psyhics, Young and 1st time mothers especially owned by inexperienced owners with no mentor, always have the potential to be horrible mothers. Many can and do reject pups. Or mother them too much. These pups may not turn out as beautiful as you hopes, as they can inherit genes from their father.
"I want a part of my dog when he/she is gone and my family wants one of his/her pups too"
Okay. However any pup bred from him/her is not going to be a clone. It will not be the same as your beloved pet. It will not have the same traits. If you want a dog most likely like the one you lost, your best bet would be to get one from your dog’s breeder- but I dont recommend it if your dog came from a pet store or irresponsible breeder

Where Can I Find Someone Who Sales Teacup Yorkies in Dc?

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

I’m looking for a teacup yorkie for valentine’s day. (affordable)

A little something called Backyard Breeders!

Buy a teacup, which is poorly bred so I hope you have enough money for PLENTY of health issues, and you’re supporting puppy mills/bybers everywhere!

I hope you have a motza of cash put aside for vet bills.

The regular and ONLY Yorkie is SMALL ENOUGH. You can break them by stepping on them or sitting on them. You dont wanna get a poorly bred one thats going to have tons of health problems that you can break just from playing with them. Find a REPUTABLE breeder.

What Are Some Useful Tips and Information in Raising Teacup Yorkies?

Friday, April 23rd, 2010

I’m fixing to buy a teacup yorkie and I just want some helpful tips on how to raise him right. I’ve heard that because of the size of these puppies that they tend to have many complications. Any links and advice are greatly appreciated.

Please don’t buy from a breeder. So many dogs are being euthanized because they have nowhere to stay.

This is why you need to adopt

I don’t know what you’re "fixing" to buy, because a "teacup" dog just doesn’t exist.

However, if you want an ill-bred runt with loads of health problems that will cost you hundreds, likely thousands of $$$ in medicines and surgeries, then yes, there are backyard breeders and puppy mills who will produce these sad things, give them silly made-up names, and sell them for hundreds of $$$ because they know that people are gullible sheep.

As far as raising a runt dog? Likely they’ll need more frequent meals so that their blood sugar doesn’t drop so low that they fall into a coma. They’ll also likely have an open frontal, which is a skull with bone plates that never completely close and fuse like they’re supposed to. Also be on the lookout for inherited eye disorders, malformation of the heart, thyroid problems, and bone degeneration, in addition to joint issue such as hip and elbow dysplasia.
