The standard for the Yorkie is 7 lbs or less – why do you need a dog any smaller?

Buying off the internet is also a pretty bad idea. You'd be supporting a terrible industry.

There's a few places to start.

Don't buy from a website. Buy from a reputable dealer – not from a puppy mill. Do the research and make sure you are getting a good, healthy dog. If you buy online or from a puppy mill, you have no idea what sort of dog you are really getting.

Once again(as we have said about 1000 times a day)…there is NO such thing as a "teacup" anything!!!!! It is just a scam by unscrupulous breeders to try and get more money out of dumb people for substandard dogs. NO reputable breeder will use "teacup" to describe their dogs. All dogs must fall within certain limits to be within the breed standard, and there is absolutely NO mention of "teacup" anywhere on the AKC website. So, if you want to support backyard breeders and puppymills and buy an unhealthy little runt for WAYYY more than it will ever be worth, then I'm sure you'll find tons of overpriced ones for sale anywhere…..

You have to know what "teacup" means to you since it is an unofficial term.

Usually when breeders say teacup it mean a dog under 4 lbs and under 7 inches tall measured at the shoulder. Not everyone has the same definition though. Definitely ask what the breeder means by that.

Puppy millers (cheap dogs) will often lie just to get the sale. Even worse, they will show you a picture on-line of a cute well bred puppy and then ship you a sickly different puppy.

I think nowadays almost everyone— especially a professional breeder– should have a website. Look for breeders in your area……..

And buy from someone who specializes in YORKIES– someone who sells 4 different breeds of dogs rarely breeds any of them very well.

Yes, I agree to check out the Yorkshire Terrier Club for breeders close to you……. http://www.ytca.org/
