Why Do the Teacup Yorkies Cost So Much?

Is there anywhere that I can get a really cute and really small dog for less than $750.00? One dog I saw cost $5000.00!!!!! Thanks

They cost so much because Teacup anything is a fad right now. Teacup is a scam. The national breed clubs and AKC do NOT recognize Teacup as a size or a separate breed !!!

There are very small Yorkies and other breeds, but the smaller they are the more likely to have problems breeding.
So many have to have C-Sections or may have only one puppy. Or they may lose the female.

Plus even with a "guarantee" most Teacup breeders count on you not wanting to give the puppy back if it goes oversize.
And many Teacup or supposed to be tiny dogs do end up larger than expected !!! Because the mill breeders don't really know genetics and some lie about how small their breeding dogs are.

OR they lie about how old the puppy is, so you'll think it's going to be really tiny as an adult !!!

Tiny dogs can have many more health issues, esp. if they come from a mill or backyard breeder….they don't screen for health or know their genetic issues.

If you cannot afford the price, then check Petfinder.org or contact your local or national Yorkshire Terrier club and contact their breed rescue. Puppies aren't puppies for very long. Many end up dumped because they aren't an accessory and they can be hard to housebreak.

And if you cannot afford the price tag, then you cannot afford the vet bills !!!! Buyer BEWARE !!!

Research the health and genetic problems that Yorkies can have so you know why to only buy from a reputable breeder locally rather than some internet puppy mill.

Any site that has pups available all the time is a red flag ! Any breeder that will take VISA and will ship to anyone is a red flag ! If they don't interview you and question you, then avoid them !

A good breeder is usually a member of their local and even national breed club. They usually show their dogs to prove how good they are. They test for everything and their dogs are not cheap, but they have, pedigrees, health guarantees and contracts and you can see the dam.

Some of the best breeders do not have the sire and the dam…they often use someone else's stud dog to keep their lines going forward and not constantly using the same dogs over and over.

With a good breeder you actually get what you pay for !

If that's the breed you are looking for and a pure breed that's what you pay for… have you tried petfinder.com.

Because these "breeders" know that there are suckers at there that will pay high for a teeny tiny runt. You are better off going to a good breeder with breed standard yorkies than some BYB. Or better yet adopt from a rescue and save a life.

    (BYB= back yard breeder)

You can get many really cute dogs from the shelter. Smaller dogs tend to cost more as they are in HIGH demand. Do some research – regular yorkies are about 8 lbs, max. Try http://www.petfinder.com. If you type in "yorkshire terrier," you'll also get mixes that are part/mostly yorkie. Mixes have many benefits to them, as another poster as said.

For more about different breeds (without doing too much research – good for getting started) try http://www.dogbreedinfo.com.

Yorkies smaller than 5 lbs. are usually very unhealthy. 5 lbs. is still small enough to carry with you, look like a cute little teddy bear, etc. They're adorable dogs – as are many very small dogs. Any breed in the toy group of the AKC will be small.

Because it's a ripoff. Teacup yorkies are the most likely to be sick, have seizures, go blind and break bones.

Any purebred dog is more likely to have health issues.

You are best off with a mixed breed. They are more healthy, live longer, and are usually cuter!

Check out rescue… Or the shelter. Those little tiny things are sold for more money cause people think they are cute and tend to spend more on them.. You can rescue one and pay a fraction of the cost and get the same dog.

Teacups take quite a while to breed to that size, and they often have delivery complications & health problems. Have you considered getting a regular sized Yorkshire Terrier? They're still small!

I'm not quite sure but here is my guess.
i'm guessing because they don't have as many puppies as larger dogs. Basset hounds, German Shepherds, golden retrievers, labs and all big sort of dogs usually have at the average 6-8 puppies per litter. But yorkies usually have 1-3 pups. That's my guess. Since they don't have as many puppies per litter they cost more. Only my guess.
    Hope I helped some!
check your local shelter, they could have one. Or google search teacup yorkie+[your location] and look until you find you in your price range.

    Good Luck!
And I hope you find one!

Theres also no thing as a teacup dog. They can just try and get extra money off of you.

Because "teacup" is a marketing term used by ignorant "breeders" out for profit. Directly translated, it means "Poorly bred crap".

Why wouldn't they try to scam you out of as much money as possible?

If you want a puppy, go to a responsible breeder. Start looking here:

If you are willing to adopt an adult Yorkie (bonus: It will already be its adult size, so you'll know what you're getting), try searching http://www.petfinder.com , or take a look here:

There's no such thing as teacup yorkies, thats a name coined by amateur breeders so that they can skyrocket prices- much like the poodle mutt craze. Sometimes these breeds will eventually be accepted, but I think its seriously irresponsible to breed for only one "popular" trait, personally. Even today miniature poodles are subject to serious health problems that came from breeding them down to their size. If you want a really small dog, get a chihuahua or a dachsund, and I suggest a breeder sanctioned by the AKC-

Or go to petfinder.com and find a mutt for free thats just as good as a "teacup yorkie". I hope that helps.
Good luck with your search, I hope you find what you want. : )

You should go to http://www.oodle. com under classifieds then under pets then under dogs and type in the kind u want. If you dont see anthing dont fret because you can have them send alerts to you daily for the kind of dog you want. Also, for the teacup yorkies, they cost so much because they are so small and because they are pure breeds. Sure you can get a mutt for $250 but if you want a pure breed you better be rackkin up the bucks.

Ignore all those negative answers! I just got a tiny yorkie puppy from "puppyfind.com" and I love her! The one good thing is that she is 1/4 miniature dachsund. Because of this, she may avoid some of the health problems that pure bred dogs have. That also made her less expensive.

I suggest you search Puppyfind.com and type in a mixture like yorkiepoo or look for a "chorkie". These mixes are more healthy and can be a bit cheaper. There are many different mixtures of tiny dogs. They are darling. Good luck!!!
