Do You Think a Cute Teacup Yorkshire Terrier Is Worth $1800?

I want a cute baby female teacup Yorkie but it is $1800 dollars. Would you get this cute dog? Do you think it is worth it?

No. Reason being that it’s a Teacup. Toy dogs that are labeled as Teacups are bred from either a puppy mill or a back yard breeder.

On the other hand $1,800 is the going rate for a well bred Yorkshire Terrier where both parents are proven Champions and are genetically health tested. A Yorkie that is bred under these conditions will be tiny and will conform to the breed standard. Not exceeding the weight of more than 7 lbs. And they will never be labeled as being "Teacup."

So please don’t fall under the trap of the "Teacup" label. You will just be paying a high price for a poorly bred dog.

no such thing as teacup- someone is trying to rip you off.

go find a healthy sized Yorkshire Terrier. It will pay off in vet bills alone.

No. And there is no such thing as a "teacup" dog. Just runts bred with other runts to make really small dogs that often don’t live long and have all kinds of health problems. These dogs are usually expensive (and I don’t mean what the breeder charges for them, I mean vet bills) and not very happy or healthy dogs.

There is ONE size of Yorkie!! Any dog labeled as a "teacup" is not worth more than vaccinations.

A well bred Yorkie could easily be worth that, and it would still be cute but it would be a whole lot healthier!!! Go to http://www.ytca.org for a breeder referral.

You can also look into rescue, which would be cheaper, again still for cute dogs. The site above can help you with that too. Make sure to reserach the breed fully, they are more than just something cute to cuddle. Good luck!

There is no such thing as a teacup terrier. Teacup terriers are only runts of a litter. Problems such as respiratory problems can remain or worsen throughout their lives. These babies frequently are so fragile that they do not live more than a few years. There have been several tiny Yorkies as adults who still had open fontanels and their owners had to carry nourishment with them all the time. Their vets have felt it unsafe to give a full dose of vaccine so the puppies had to get several injections to be on the safe side.

There is no such thing as a "tea cup" Yorkshire Terrier, Maltese, Poodle, or any other breed for that matter. They simply do not exist. "Tea-cup" is just a marketing ploy given by unethical and unscrupulous breeders to drive up the price of their puppies!

So called "Teacups" fetch anything from $1000 to $10,000! This is ridiculous and shameful! There are a lot of chronically, unhealthy puppies because unscrupulous breeders and puppy mills are inbreeding. Some poor darlings only live for a very, very short time!

No I don’t think you should pay that much for a dog when there are so many dogs that need a good home in shelters. And it won’t cost you $1800.

No. I would rather go to a shelter and adopt a cute dog that needs a loving home for 60 dollars.

Only a purebred, genetic sound, health issues cleared dogs will worth that kind of money. Give you an example, I paid $1700 for my Newfie but he came from a breeder who has bred Newfie for 30 years. He got all potential health issues cleared, including his dad and mom. The breeder will take back her dogs if owners can’t provide care anymore, so none of her dogs will end up in shelters. I got pretty much 24/7 advice/after care.

The money you are going to pay is not going toward the genetics of the dog, it’s going to the "teacup" name. Agree with others, there is no such thing as teacup. They bred runt with runt. You may end up with a dog that will cause you more med bill than the purchase price.

no way. yorkies sell all over for 450 to 600. someone is trying to sell you a runty, potentially unhealthy pup for wayyyyyyyyyy too much money.

No dog is worth $1800. This one especially. Teacup Yorkies are a fallacy. They are the runts of the litter and never healthy. Save your money, get a regular yorkie and put the money you save in an account for vet bills.

There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie. It’s a marketing term used by unethical breeders to describe extremely small dogs. Reputable breeders to not breed for the purpose of producing extremely small Yorkies–they breed for quality, health, temperament instead. Extremely small bred dogs are often more prone to health issues and injury. You should avoid any breeder who markets their dogs as "teacups."
I would suggest that while you search, you also thoroughly educate yourself on the breed. This will better prepare you for when you do find a dog and help you recognize and avoid common issues views as red flags with Yorkie breeders.

$1800 is more the price for a correct breed show quality pup

A pup advertised as a teacup is a genetic "defect" of the breed.

Ignorant people who breed 2 undersized runts of litters, that should have been culled, to perpetuate runts are simply amoral, doing so for the $ without knowledge of genetics nor care of the puppies they are producing, nor for the gullible people who buy them that may end up spending a fortune for health problems , nor caring if the dog dies beford it is 2 years old leaving the new owner(s) brokenhearted.
