How expensive is it to buy/ take care of a puppy 1) teacup yorkshire terrier or 2) pomeranian?

all answers are appreciated, thank you

Well if you fall for the " tea cup" act then you will be out a lot of money. First of all, there isn't a tea cup yorkie or of any breed! There is only 1 size of yorkie and thats under 7 pounds. There's no other size standards!

2. Those so called "tea cups" are usually very sick! Watch out for behavioral problems as well!

3. Both breeds will be expensive if you buy from a RESPONSIBLE breeder. Sure you might find some scum breeders(back yard breeders) that offer then a little cheaper then the RESPONSIBLE ones but in the end you might be forking over an additional $500+ in vet bills as they usually have parents that have no genetic testing…and usually have something and passes the bad genes in the pups!

So buy responsibly and you might not have to have a fortune in vet bills from a sickly poorly bred dog!

And you can also try shelters and breed rescues. Believe it or not, you can get a purebred in shelters/breed rescues! And don't fall for the "designer breed" crap either. No responsible breeder will breed mutts and call them names like " yorkiepoos" cockapoo"etc. Mutts are mutts, no matter the freaking names you call them. Shelters have lots of them and guess what…….they are not overpriced!

try petfinder. you can search local shelters for the breeds you specified.

Responsible breeders don't use craiglist, or any scum websites.

Your best bet would be looking going to the breed club of each breed and seeing what breeders are listed there. Responsible breeders usually have several titled parents, genetic testing( OFA,CERF,etc)

No such thing as a teacup dog of ANY breed.

ANY dog with that stupid scam label is going to cost more than it should both to buy AND in vet bills.

Well bred pups of either breed are going to run you at least 800-900 from a reputable breeder.

Cost to care depends on who you go to for grooming, what vet you go to, what supplies you buy and what brand of food you get.

Yes there is a tea-cup yorkie I have one and I paid 1500.00 for it and it is like 100 dollars to take it to the groomers every 2 weeks and they have alot of medical problems also they need certain food and etc pomerranian i have no clue

a "teacup" is a breeder's selling term for "the runt" those dogs usually die fast, from freak accidents, have enormous vet bills, and underdeveloped brains. so by purchasing a teacup for a couple hundred bucks extra will be like paying for jeans already ripped, you can rip your own jeans, so why not go for a healthier dog and let him grow old and live a nice long healthy life.

the food is not that expensive, but:grooming is important for both of those breeds!when the hair is long or thick,it will get matted(unless you brush it every day)
eventually the dog will have to be shaved (very short hair, not naked)
health problems can arise in small dogs:eye problems, collapsing trachea, luxating patellas(problems with kneecaps)
epilepsy.

well i have a teacup yorkiepoo, i paid 24 dollars for his crate, 30 dollars on really good small breed puppy food,3 dollars on dishes, 4dollars on tear free puppy shampoo, around 10 dollars on toys, 60 on shots he hadn't received. and i paid 200 for the best most lovable dog possible. the hardest part was the first 2weeks crate training him but other than that it was all worth it, he follows me everywhere, stands by the door when i come and leave the house. yorkie are very sensitive and loyal. i just sold a pomeranian she was too yeppie and not easy to crate train. hopes this helps.

Teacups are VERY expensive because they are sickly runts and only come from bad breeders. My bestfriend didn't listen to my warnings and bought a teacup yorkie. It only cost her $600 initially, but then it was over $5,000 in vet bills until she died just short of her first birthday. If you want a purebred, you need to pay a good, responsible breeder which will cost you lots of money up front ($2500-3500) but will cost you less over the life of the dog (15-20 years is how long of a lifetime commitment you are looking at with either dog). So you have the initial cost ($2500), the training classes ($120), the monthly food, the bed, crate, treats, toys, GROOMING (most people forget to add this in for these breeds, very expensive), vet care - the average dog owner spends $2500 a year on a HEALTHY dog. If your puppy gets sick, costs can rocket and add up quickly. You can count on $5000 the first year with your purebred. If you get a mutt from the shelter or a purebred rescue (either breed have plenty of rescues and we used to get pomeranians in all the time at the shelters due to high grooming costs), you can cut that cost significantly down to just the yearly maintanence. It will cost you $100-250 to get from a shelter or purebred rescue. Not a bad way to go.

Here is a guide to finding a GOOD breeder:

IF there isn't every single criteria on this list, you need to walk away.

Yorkies seem to sell for about 2ce as much as a pomeranian. I bought a Pomeranian 4 years ago and he is just the best dog ever!!! Sooooo cute.

Not being a small dog person, I have no idea how much it costs to purchase one of those breeds. But I can tell you that dog ownership of any kind is not cheap. I have a 6 month old mutt pup who has cost around $1,000 in the 4 months we have had him. There are pet deposits, vet visits, licensing fees, supplies, and a lot of other things to consider as well.

there's no such thing as a "teacup" anything. That is a term used by scam artist breeders, and ignorant buyers. Its a sickly runt with a fake label and a huge price tag.

ALL dogs are expensive to take care of. I spend about $100-200 a month to properly care for my dog.

Any dog is going to be expensive. A well bred, properly raised Yorkshire Terrier or Pomeranian from a reputable breeder can easily run you upwards of $1000.

The most expensive puppy: a poorly bred runt that has been labeled "tea cup" to wrongly justify a higher price tag. Not only do you pay ludicrous amounts of money on acquiring an unsound dog (not conforming to recognized breed standards), chances are you're going to be spending twice that on veterinary bills.

You can find both Yorkies or Pomeranians for adoption on petfinder.com. You can also search for breed specific rescues in your area. The acquisition cost of rescue dogs is a reasonable fee and the dog comes up-to-date on all shots, spayed/neutered, and (most likely) microchipped.

I saw an ad. for it and it was above $1500 dollars. If you have the money for it then its your choice. Just remember to research because every breed have different temperment and hereditary issues that comes with it.

My aunt has 3 pomeranians. I think they are good dogs. she got them between $400 -$600. My friend got her yorkie that is now around 9lbs for $800 but she have some kind of bites defect. I used to have pomeranian. They are pretty mellow. I wanted a teacup yorkie but after doing research I decided not too. They are terrier so they seem to be a bit yappy for me. Plus Teacup yorkie according to the breeder is under a certain weight. I don't know if that is healthy. They will be easily step on. Its hard or dangerous to be around children. They also require alot of care since they so expensive. Yorkie that is small tend to have hip dysplexia and kidney problems. So I think it is better to go with Pomeranian.

I just got my ShihTzu 4 days ago. They are also very small, extremely smart, mellow, and full of personality. They will be from 8-16 lbs once full grown and no higher than 11 inches. Check them out and see if you like them. If you need any help feel free to email me.

It is good that you are doing research and not buy a dog out of impulse. :D

I read a book on how to get a good puppy and there is no such thing as a tea cup or smaller size breed. It means that they are not as healthy as the others in the litter and breeders are just trying to make money. So its a gimmick. They get sick easily because of the low weight and weak imm. system.

^^^^ Well then you're an idiot for paying $1500 for the runt of the litter. $100 every two weeks for a groomers visit? It's just a handful of fur, what's that $100 even pay for?

Please research what is meant by a teacup breed and then decide wisely. Search petfinder for these breeds and see what is available and rescue pricing, which is typically a steal considering they've taken care of shots and most likely the spay/neutering. I would then do a little online shopping with a basic dog checklist (bowl, leash, collar, brush, crate, steam cleaner etc.) to figure out the initial cost. Call around to groomers and check credentials/experience with your breed and the price, if they offer any specials like buy 8 grooms, get 1 free.

Don't throw your money away at a pet store, please.

There is no such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie. Due to terrible breeding practices tiny puppies are born who have all sorts of health problems. It should be outlawed. Now, for the truth. You do not EVER have to buy an animal. There are so many millions of dogs that will end up in shelters, rescue groups and foster homes. These are the same cute little pups that breeders sell to people. Due to the ignorance of so many pet owners, they will not be trained, socialized or given proper vet care. Then they end up unwanted. Expect to spend $30 average for grooming a Yorkie every 2 months or so. Food, treats, products, beds, toys, crates, clothes for cold weather and rain, teeth cleaning EVERY YEAR, (Must be done with a Yorkie or all sorts of disease can occur from infected teeth). Lot's of misc. stuff…Vet visits…….This can add up to several thousand dollars per year. Well worth it. Good Lucl!

If you're buying a runt of the litter yorkie, you're going to be having more vet bills during the life of the dog than you'd have with a yorkie that was the proper size. "Teacup" is only a marketing term bad breeders use to sell their runts. In the past nobody wanted runts because of the medical issues. Nowadays the cutsie term completely blinds people to the reality of the problem dog they're purchasing. AND it puts 3 times the price of the dog into the breeder's bank account.

A normal sized yorkie is not going to be over 10 pounds, just buy a healthy normal sized one. Pomeranians require a lot of brushing to keep their coat in good condition, they're higher maintenance.
