hi, is there such thing as a teacup, minature or toy yorkshire terrier or is there just standard yorkshire terrier. i’m a little confused because some peaple say there are and some people say theres only one size of yorkshire terriers.
No, Yorkshire Terriers are already tiny. Teacup just means they were bred to be runts. Dont buy one of those dogs labeled teacup, they often are very pricey and have numerous health problems. There is only 1 size of Yorkshire Terriers.

No, but there is such a thing as poorly bred runts bred by backyard breeders.
Yorkies come in only one size.

My friends mother has one and it is so cute. They are called teacup yorkshire terriers!

Nope – Yorkshire Terrier comes in one size. Seven pounds or less. There is no noted or recognized size differences between a three pounder and a seven pounder. Period. End of story.

Nope. Yorkies come in one size. Anything else is a badly bred runt that can hardly be considered a Yorkie.
http://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire_terrier/index.cfm – real yorkie. "no larger then 7 pounds"
References :
The American Kennel Club defines the Yorkshire Terrier’s size as no larger than seven pounds. They offer no other definitions, so according to them there is only one size. Anyone who breeds "teacup" or "toy" Yorkies is breeding the runts from litters to create a smaller dog that they can sell for more money. These dogs usually have health problems associated with their poor breeding.

Yorkies come in one size. The so called ‘teacups’ are just poor sickly runts bred to other poor sickly runts. They are not healthy dogs & you will spend more at the Vets than you will pay for the dog.
They are not recognized by any registry.
References :
Yes, but they only call them that because they’re usually unhealthy runts.
Their size just really depends on their parents, and how many the female has.

I have 12 yorkies. I would know.

This site will help explain that there is only one standard breed of Youkie, and that they have been designated minature or ‘tea cup’ based strictly on their size. Know also that the smaller dogs are runts and are generally less healthy than standard sized dogs of the breed

umm no but they called teacups because they are small

NO there is no such thing as a teacup anything!
Yorkshires come in one size.
Teacup is just a name given to sick irresponsibly bred runts by BYB’s to try and make money

No, a "teacup" Yorkie is just an UNHEALTHY runt dogs. There is only ONE size of Yorkshire Terriers. http://www.barkrescue.net/teacup.htm

Yorkies come in ONE size only
there’s no "minis" "toys" "teacups" or any other sizes.
Breed standard says they are 7 pds or less.. that means a 2 pd yorkie is still just a yorkie.

Theres only one size: 7 pounds or less, preferably 4-6 pounds. There’s no "tea cup"," miniature", "toy", "standard" yorkie. Yorkies are registered only as Yorkshire terrier. Period. Nothing in front of that at all. Many of the "tea cups", "toys" and "miniature" yorkies are well within the breed standard of 7 pounds or less, this doesn’t mean they are special at all! No reputable breeder uses the term. Back yard breeders(they are bad) use the term and usually breed dogs as small as 3 pounds( nothing under 4 really should be bred) and breed them to other dogs on the smaller size, hoping to get a smaller then average puppy. Although in a lot of cases a " tea cup puppy expected to be 3-4 pounds at maturity" will actually be in the range of 5-7 pounds at adulthood.
In a lot of cases, the smallest ones are usually very unhealthy, have tons of health problems, not to mention behavioral problems. Some don’t make it through their 1st year.
