Teacup Yorkshire Terrier

Im getting a teacup Yorkie this week, she is from Africa. And i have had dogs before but never a yorkie. What are some things i should know. How often do they need a bath? Do they need there teeth brushed? Do they need a certian type of food, bedding and stuff like that? Can they be trained to go to the bathroom inside like a cat? And can you also just tell me about there caracther. Are they always hyper? Do they like to sleep with you? Well you get the point. Thanks!
It wasnt bred in Africa. Silly. It was bred here. But a misson took it over and it cant live there. LOL
Thanks, but why will they have big vet bills?
ok, thanks… well you scared the crud out of me. Im serious. And yea… I did send my money. It was sent via- Western Union. And the shiping co. is ligit cuz they snet me this thing bout my dog saying it was on itz way over andeverything.
so do you think that there is hope that i will get my doggy?
And.. no. i live in the center of the usa

Oh, dear. Mission huh?

First off, you’re being scammed. Send this person your money and you will never see a puppy. This is a very well known scam with hundreds of victims. The dog is always US bred, and then taken to another country. Do not send money.

Secondly, tea cup dogs are bred far too small, and because of that are prone to terrible health problems. You can assume high vet bills because of this. These dogs are generally very unhealthy. If you want a yorkie, seek a reputable breeder that boasts the standard variety….NO teacups…..rather than sending your money to some stranger.

A good breeder of dogs would never allow you to purchase a dog without allowing you to meet and interact with it first. Please, do not send money to thse people.

My goodness they’re breeding these things in Africa now? What has the world come to? http://www.yorkshire-terrier-dog.com/ start here and good luck with the vet bills

Most definitely their small size makes them health problems such as Patellar Luxation, Progressive Retinal Atrophy, Demodicosis, Hydrocephalus and Mitral Valve Disease. All of these due to their small size

You should NEVER buy a breed that you know nothing about, or a puppy that you’ve never actually seen, especially one from another country. Research the breed online & you’ll get all your answers & more. And read up on the teacup myth, you bought a Yorkie, that’s all. Most end up being standard size, some even bigger, and the ones who don’t will usually end up making you bankrupt with vet bills.

    ADD:
I hate to tell you this, but I’ve heard of this scam before. ou just send them the shipping charges and they send you………… NOTHING!!!!

You shouldn’t really get a breed that you know nothing about. You need to do research on the breed you’re interested in. Lots of dogs and up in shelters because their owner didn’t know what to expect. You shouldn’t get a dog just because it’s "cute" or a "designer breed" or whatever.

These are all things that you should have asked the breeder, and that the breeder should have asked you to make sure you are ready for a dog. And no responsible breeder sells "teacup" anything. Read this on "teacup" yorkies and irresponsible breeders:

Are you sure you’re getting a dog from Africa? Whereabout do you live? In Africa too I hope?

I hope you’re not buying this dog via the internet. You know, lots of unknowing people buy dogs this way, and never get their dog. It’s a scam. If that’s what you’re doing, I would rethink it seriously and look for a reputable breeder in your area.

    Add:
They will have big vet bills because they are so small. Standard yorkies are anywhere from 4 to 7 pounds, so a "teacup" would have to be smaller than that, meaning it’s a runt. "Teacup" is just a term used by bad breeders, they target buyers who are looking for the tiniest dog, so they call their runts "teacups" and slap a hefty price tag on them. Unfortunately dogs that small tend to have tons more health issues, like shunts, heart problems, hypoglycemia, seizures, breathing problems, etc. etc. Read more about that here:

That stinks, already sent your money…. I’m sure "they" could make up some copy of a shipping notice or whatever, to make it SEEM legit to you, so don’t think you’re in the clear. Still sounds like a scam. Call the airlines and see if they have it in their schedule.

I wouldn’t get prepared or excited, you’ll never get that dog. It’s a scam, don’t send these people money! It’s a pretty common scam, they will take the $ and you won’t get the dog ever. Let me guess, the dog can’t deal with the climate/they don’t have $ to care for it, they just want it to have a good home, so they are going to give it to you, all you have to do is send $ for the transportation, right? Scam, scam, scam. Here’s just a couple of the hundreds of warning out there about this very issue. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2007/05/puppy_scam.html

OMG! I hope you didn’t send them any money! You have probably been scammed big time!

Just on the off chance that you actually get a dog then there are some things you should know. Teacup yorkies are just yorkies that are bred down for size alone so are often not the best choice. They come with a host of health problems, includiing some skeltal problems, especially in the region of the patella (knees) I have three small dogs that live in my house and they are paper trained to use newspapers that I’ve placed on a tray. You should purchase the smallest kibble you can find because they have trouble eating larger hard dry bits. Manufacturers are finally starting to make kibble for these teeny, tiny dogs. They are often hyper, yappy dogs and often suffer from separation anxiety. They will want to sleep with you.

Oh, good luck, I really hope you haven’t been scammed but I’m afraid that you have lost your money.

Teacup dogs are either regular Yorkies with the name attatched so they can become more expensive, a runt, or the product of a runt bred to a runt.

They’ll have health problems, like their teeth growing too large, or internal problems that most runts and backyard bred or puppy milled dogs face.

And be careful. A lot of the "dogs" coming out of Africa are actually scams.
