Getting a Toy Yorkie puppy in 12 days?

My family recently put a deposit down for a Toy Yorkie puppy. Because of my sister's confirmation this weekend (March 15th), we are bringing him home the next Saturday (March 21st [or should it be Friday, the 20th..?]), in exactly 12 days from now. We know where we're going to place his crate/potty area, but I just wanted to know of any things like toys, food, treats, etc. we should get him prior to his arrival and when should we get them?

You will NEED:

Food
Bed and blankets
Lead and collar with ID tag (or if not, make sure he's microchipped)
Flea/worming treatment
Food and water bowls
Toys (balls are always good)
Puppy shampoo
Brush/comb
A good supply of newspaper for house training

You might WANT to get:

Treats (good as a training aid or just because)
Training spay (the stuff that deters them from scratching and peeing on stuff)
A book on puppy care
A book on Yorkies

All should be bought before the puppy arrives, apart from the lead which you will only need to get when you can walk him - which will be when he's had all his vaccinations. Remember to feed him the brand of food his breeder gave him. You can wean him off it over time if you need to.

Contact the breeder and ask what food they use. Its best to keep the dog on the food that s/he's already on. You can switch at a later date if you choose. As for toys and treats…. I never like buying that stuff before hand. What is a fun and entertaining toy to one dog isn't as fun for another. The treats that one dog loves, another may turn their nose up at. Just wait until you actually have him/her and make a trip to Petsmart. That's half the fun anyway!

Make sure you have:
-food/water bowls.
-good grooming brush for daily brushes
-leash
-collar that fits appropriately. Preferably one that will grow with the puppy.

*Actually, the AKC DOES recognize toy breeds. The Yorkie is in the toy group and was first recognized in 1885.

You should get your money back now because there is no such thing as a toy yorkie. Yorkies come in only one size, anything else is just a marketing gimmick to get more money for a puppy. The yorkshire terrier club of america statement on teacup/toy/tiny yorkies:

Puppies like to chew on things. So get your new puppy some toys that they can chew on. Also you should get some treats and start training right away. My dog LOVES the Pupperoni. I recomend that.

Have everything ready before he comes.Try to have the same kind of food he is used to. Switch him later if you need to. Take him to the vet for a wellness check. Take a poop sample to check for worms. Start any needed vaccinations.

You should have everything in place prior to bringing him home. Ask the vet what food they are feeding him and get that brand at least to start with. Congrats on the new pup. They like rope toys and stuffed animals. You need the food and water dishes, leash, collar,. I usually do not give the chi pups treats until about 3 months old unless you get some made for small pups. Enjoy the new baby!
