How Do I Deter Coyotes in My Yard of a Subdivison? My Toy Yorkie Got Carried Away Tonight.?

Luckily my dog and I were screaming and the coyote dropped her. She has bruising only. Xrays showed she’s okay…THANK GOODNESS.

Go outside with your dog at ALL times. Don’t keep any dog food or cat food outside. Garbage secure in a metal trash barrel. Sometimes coyotes are attracted by food & come around to scavenge. Encourage your neighbors to do the same.

try a small fenced in area if you can’t get a large one. just a potty-pen for at night when they come.

Put up a fenced area or an electric fence and monitor your dog when she goes outside. As a last resort call some sort of animal hunter..? My dad and I hunt coyotes and we got a call about a coyote coming into a neighborhood and killing a bunch of dogs and cats. Coyotes are actually very intelligent creatures and they do communicate. A lot of times the pack will send out a female coyote that is in heat to attract male dogs then lead them into the woods to kill them, and male coyotes are sometimes attracted to female dogs that are in heat.

Well I would suggest getting a fence. If you can’t afford to get the entire yard done you can buy a small movable fence from pet smart. They are in several sizes and rather large. It can give her a safe place to potty, and they’re not really expensive, considering the safety of your dog. We got one last summer for my dog. The top is open, and I think it’s 6 ft high. We tied a heavy weight tarp over most of the top to provide plenty of shade. It also has a full door for you to go in and out of. I think it was $299 for ours. It’s big though 6x12x6ft high. Good luck and I hope your little one is ok.

I would fence in the yard, but i still wouldn’t let the dog out alone after dusk.

I don’t think you can stop coyotes from making their night time rounds.

a friend of mine put some rope around her yard with chilli pepper juice on it to keep coyotes out of her yard…she used baling twine and put it 6 inches off the ground…her dogs won’t even go near it…a game warden gave her that ideal

I’ve lived in coyote country. You just need to go out with your dog and monitor when she’s out there. Coyotes won’t bother a human. Just don’t ever leave your dog unattended out there as she IS small enough that they could come back again and screaming isn’t going to stop them most likely next time.

Everyone has answered your question very well. The best advice is to not leave your yorkie outside alone, especially at night. I never had to deal with coyotes, when we lived in the boonies of WV, I did have some concerns regarding my yorkie’s safety. He had an 80 lab chow mix for a companion and they used to take walks in the woods. They both always returned unharmed. So that would be my only other suggestion – get another, larger breed puppy for the yorkie’s companion and protector. However, it will take at least a year for the pup to become big enough to intimidate any potential predator.
