I would contact local shelters about adopting a small mixed dog (terrier mix would be good). Mixes have fewer genetic problems than purebred dogs. Before you adopt, be sure you have an agreement with your family and make the shelter aware of this . Having a dog is a big responsibility, and while the job of caring for a dog should be primarily yours, the shelter will need to know that your parents are on board to help if needed (vet bills, feeding while you are at school or sick, etc.).

A smooth coat chihuahua takes a lot less grooming and they make wonderful pets.

Well, I own a small Yorkie, and love her. Though, take into consideration all of the responsibilities, as well as the fact she/he will be very small. Be sure you have no potentially threatening pets or poisonous plants.

Yorkies are toy breeds. There is no such thing as a toy Yorkie. Go to the breed clubs for more info

Wouldn't that decision best be left to your parents since I can't imagine you have the money to purchase a pure bred yorkshire terrier, there is no such thing as a toy yorkie? Anyway, pick out several small breed dogs and do some homework on what each breed consists of and what would fit best with your family's lifestyle.

of you like that dog then yes, size shouldnt be an issue but you should think if you would like that dog, and if hes good for where you live…!?

No,I don't think that a Yorkie would be a good dog for you,I used to have one,you noticed I wrote USED to?They are a LOT of maintenance they need so much care and they need to be groomed all of the time and bathed, and nails trimmed, and with you being so young, you are going to need help from mom and dad,not to mention the expense of all of the maintenance.,shots,ETC…..However,maybe you would like a short haired dog of some sort?A dog that doesn't get too big,I really don't know what kind to suggest, but it needs to go with your personality ,but just know that a dog or puppy is a dedication to responsibility ,and a great commitment ,we don't have ours anymore because my daughter was not ready for that at the age of 16,the dog got in the way of going to the movies and spending time with friends,so please think of that too.Good Luck in whatever you decide, but think of the dog too!

yorkies take up a lot of time and are really hard to potty train. If you are ok with this then go ahead. If not I would reccomend a rat terrier-they're awesome dogs-very entergetic and playful.

No not a good one for children. I have done alot of studies on a small dog that would be good with children (young teenager) of all ages. Every time the Puggle comes up. They are adorable and have all the good charecteristics of both breeds and none of the bad. A puggle is half beagel and half pug. I know it sounds weird but they are so precious and have every thing that is good for a family with kids. Make sure you do your reaserch. You usually wont get the kind of dog you want but you will get the right kind of pet you are dreaming for.

No, its your parents who will have to do so. A 13 yr old cannot enter into a binding contract with a breeder or pet store. Now with that said, a Yorkie is a fine small dog, but are you sure you want a dog that small. I have found that mixed breeds like terrier mixes are great dogs too, you can adopt one from an animal shelter and save a life at the same time. The cost is a lot less this way as well. You have to consider whether your family has time for training a puppy or to get a slightly older one that is housebroke already. Puppies also require a series of shots over several months, then you have the little dog who only need rabies along with the standard shots. Where is the little fella going to stay while your at school and parents are working. A Yorkie must be kept inside except for walks and play, you cannot take them out in cold weather without a sweater and even that's not enough to keep them warm. Research on the internet, talk to friends, a vet on the pros and cons of several different breeds to get a better idea. All small dogs are prone to knee dysplasia, where the knee joints slips out of place, requiring surgery to fix. It happened to my year old Shih tzu/Lhasa apso mix. We had to take her to the shelter, we couldn't afford the surgery. She got adopted before we finished the paparwork by an elderly lady with the means.

Yorkies are cute, but their bark is annoying. Most of the small ones that my friends and family have can be expensive for showmanship and stuff. I just think of them as plain old dogs, but… Schit-zu(?) or Daschunds are a few more suggestions.

You are 13? How about a stuffed one? Seriously, unless your FAMILY is willing to adopt a dog and it be theirs, there is no way you would be able to take care of a dog. Especially affording it. And just to add, there is no such thing as a "toy" yorkie, all it is is breeding sickly runts together in order to make them smaller so people who think tiny dogs are trendy will buy them.

It depends on what your life style is like, have you done your research on Yorkies? If not I would suggest that you learn more about them before deciding. Some breeds work better for some people than others based on their life. For example Yorkies can be very demanding and dependent, needing alot of attention. So if your going to be off at school and your parents at work with the dog home alone for hours you might want to look for a breed that isn't so dependent.
Also there is no such thing as a toy Yorkie, a Yorkie is a toy breed. Just take your time and go on Google and look up information on Yorkies and then decide along with your family if they would be a good dog for you and your family. Some other breeds you might want to look into are Chihuahua's, Maltese, Papillon, and the Bichon Frise. Keep in mind too that small dogs with long hair require alot of grooming, that can often be expensive and overwhelming to those not use to it or prepared to deal with it. So unless your parents don't mind having to have the dog groomed or your willing to learn how to groom the dog yourself then you might want to stick with a breed with short hair.
Overall just do alot of research, join dog forms and ask questions. The best thing you can do before getting any kind of dog is to research and know what your getting yourself into and how to take care of them properly because different breeds require different care. Also make sure your parents agree with this as well because at 13 I highly doubt you can afford to take care of or even buy a pure bread toy breed by yourself.

No such thing as a toy yorkie. There is only the Yorkshire Terrier, a fabulous breed. Any other variety is a fake and could have some dangerous health issues.
Yorkies are fun, but stubborn. They LOVE to run and bounce and jump from anywhere they can.
They are some of the toughest to housetrain, especially if you try paper training, which is a bad mistake with any breed of dog.
They can be great little companions, but you have to start training them the day he/she comes home and no later.
Be prepared for a little rambunctious bundle of energy and challenges.

I have a 15 year old yorkie that I adopted from a shelter. Yorkies have a big personalities for little dogs. They don't always like other dogs, and can be yappy too. They are sweet little dogs, but you have to be responsible with them. When you walk them, use a harnass not a collar. They are prone to have collapsed tracheas (conditon caused by them pulling on the leash/collar when you walk them) This condition causes constriction of the air way, and coughing. do your research. how much time will you be able to give this pooch with your school and extra curricular activities? If you do get a yorkie, or any other kind of dog, remember to socialize them early with other dogs so they will ge along with them when they are olderr. It is also best to socialize yorkies when they are puppies with little kids.
