Is a 3 1/2 pound to 4 pound full grown yorkie considered to be a teacup/ toy yorkie or a standard yorkie?
in other words will it be a very small dog or a little small. "tea cup/toy" yorkies are very small. i also heard that the very small dogs end up having a lot of health problems.
it would be considered a yorkshire terrier.
There are no "toys" "teacups" "minis" or any other size.. Yorkies come in ONE size only, which is 7 pds or less. Its probably considered to be on the small end of "normal".

Its considered a yorkie. There is only ONE yorkie. No standard, no toy no teacup.
7lbs and under is just a yorkie.

There is no such thing as a teacup/toy Yorkie. There is only one Yorkshire Terrier, with one breed standard. Don't know off the the top of my head because it is not my breed but I believe any Yorkie under 6 lbs is within the standard.

*sigh* HOW many times do I have to say this?
There is NO such thing as a teacup dog! It is just a stupid marketing term puppy stores use to sell their pups.
Your yorkie, is just a yorkie.

Good grief could we put the tea cups back in the cupboards and talk about real dogs

The AKC standard reads, "Must not exceed seven pounds." Most Yorkshire Terriers are between 5 and 7 lbs, if bred to the standard. BYB yorkies may be any size, from 3 to 10 lb. Any breeder who breeds "teacup" or "toy" 'yorkies' is a BYB. There is no such thing, there is only the Yorkshire Terrier.
Caveat emptor! (Buyer beware!) It is our responsibility to be educated buyers, as well as responsible breeders.

Yorkies only come in one size. The 'teacup' name is a marketing name used by unscrupulous breeders who found a way to unload previously unsellable puppies who were the runts of the litter.
It sounds nice calling it a 'teacup', so cute, but if you say 'runt' then it's not so cute. It's all marketing. Breeders KNOW that the runts have medical problems more often than not and no one really looking to buy a good representation of any breed would purchase a runt dog.
It's a fad, and a nasty one at that since these dogs are suddenly selling for 3 times what a normal one of the same breed would sell for. And the owners are usually clueless about the upcoming problems because they didn't do their research on this. "Teacup" didn't exist before Paris Hilton started carting her dogs around like stuffed toys. The term is recent and it's extremely bad for any dog breed to have it applied to the animals.

It will be a Yorkie. There is only one standard for a Yorkie, no subcategories based on size. "Teacup" is a marketing term used by unethical breeders to describe dogs bred to be extremely small, generally with no regard to the overall health of the animal.
