My yorkie x has taken to staying in her bed with the stuffed dog for most of the day, except for walks. She even wants to take it with her when she goes out, and refuses to leave it! She’s 4 years old and I think she must be broody. Has anyone got advice as to handlling this situation – will she get over it naturally, should I have her speyed etc.? Very many thanks
Sounds as if she is having a false pregnancy. The only way to stop these occurring is to have her spayed – advisable at her age anyway to prevent her from contracting a life threatening uterine infection.

Just like people, dogs can develop their little personality quirks, and it does sound like your yorkie has decided this toy is her “baby”. Forcing her to give it up may really upset her – or she may just forget it. From what you say, it would probably make her go nuts looking for it if you took it away.
Spaying her may help. Spaying is healthier, overall, for her anyway. Call your vet to see if they have any suggestions, as they know your dog’s personality. Overall, for the moment, it’s not really doing any harm.
Where I live, our Humane Society has an animal behaviorist that we can call for information. Maybe yours can help.
