What dog should I get…a yorkie or toy poodle? ADVICE?
I have allergies so which one doesn't shed/or sheds the least? And which one is the least inexpensive.
i meant least expensive XD
Poodles are typically hailed as the "hypoallergenic" dog, but people with allergies can still have problems with them. Every dog is different and the pet dander (dried saliva, oil, and dead skin cells) is what causes the allergies, not the hair. My suggestions would be to see if you can do a trial period where you take the dog home for a week to see if it works out with the agreement that the dog can be returned if you have a reaction.
Also, PLEASE look at a shelter or rescue dog. These small breed dogs are ALL OVER the shelters and they are so cute.
Also, did you mean the "least expensive"? because the least inexpensive would be the most expensive.
Both are probably going to cost you about the same. They will both need to go to a groomer regularly, probably need their teeth cleaned yearly as most small dogs do, need regular vaccination, spaying/neutering, heartworm preventive, flea preventive, good food, bedding, a crate, exercise. If you adopt from a rescue or shelter, you will get a good deal because the cost to adopt usually includes the majority of those things and you won't have to purchase them separately from your vet.
My suggestion is to sit down and make up a list of everything you will need for you new dog. Call your vet and get an estimate on how much it will cost to get everything done that they recommend, call around and get a quote from a groomer (most dogs that go need to go about every 1 to 2 months), then add it all up and figure out how much each month of dog ownership will cost and how much you will need right away. This will give you a good idea of your ability to afford a dog. Good luck in your search!

i'm so glad i caught this question! you should get a schnoodle!! a schnoodle is a mix between a schnauzer and a poodle. they are adorable! they don't shed either. you could get a miniature one (which is what my little one is) or you can get a standard (a little taller). i've read that they are good dogs for people with allergies. seriously, my dog (Toby) is the sweetest and SMARTEST dog i've ever had.
wow, i got a message from you, and i see that several gave me thumbs down. i'm so sorry. i didn't mean to offend anyone. i was just throwing that out there. i did read your question. i'm soooo sorry i came across in a bad way. i'll vote toy poodle. but i love both breeds. again, SO sorry.

At shelters they are only about $200. Look for Poodle Rescues or Yorkie Rescues.
Or go to http://petfinder.com
Never buy from a pet store. Here's why…http://stoppuppymills.org, http://saynotopetstorepuppies.com, http://millbusters.com
Edit: Also, Look on Craigslist and so on. Sometimes people give their dogs like that away, for various reasons, all having to do with life changing events so the owner can no longer care for them, keep them, etc.

Neither breed sheds much but keep in mind that low shedding breeds still sometimes trigger allergies in sensitive people - no dog is fully hypoallergenic. Allergies are caused by dander in the coat and in saliva and though low shedding breeds have less, they still have some. So you may still have allergies.

No dog is hypoallerginic and all dogs shed at least a little. The best thing you can do is contact a breeder or rescue in the area and ask to spend time with the dogs and see if they trigger yoru allergies. As far as price from a resonsible breeder you should expect to pay $800-1200 or more for a pet quality puppy of either breed. From a breed rescue generally $200-300 for either breed, from a shelter what ever the adoption fee is in your area. (generally $150 or less)

Toy Poodle.
If you have allergies a poodle would be better. They don't shed as much, but you still find fur around the house every so often. Yorkies are over priced. To get one from a good breeder, you would be looking to pay $1000-$3000. Where as, if you got a toy poodle, you may be looking at $800-$2000.

try going to your local shelter first. There are sometimes pure bred dogs there, and need homes to go to there. However, I have a silky terrier, which is similar to a yorkie, and although I know he sheds, I never notice any hair. He also needs to be brushed a lot because his hair will become tangled. These dogs have hair instead of fur. Remember to research these breeds to make sure they are right for your lifestyle. Try googling both breeds and finding out as much as you can.

the least inexpensive would mean the most expensive, So the most expensive would be the toy poodle, since it is mostly used in shows. A yorkie is a common dog, which is easy to take care of, and are good pets. They grow long hair, and rarely shed if you brush at least once a week. I personally would go with a beagle, they hardly ever shed, and are amazing pets.

bark bark! try to get them both! they will play with each other!

well I got my dog for free cause my neighbor was giving puppies.

Get a wire haired terrier if you want a small dog but all dogs shed hair to some extent. If you have allergies why not try walking a neighbours dog before you decide to by one of your own ,then you will know if you are likely to get any reactions.

well all dogs shed but the The Toy Poodle has a distinctive fine, frizzy, wooly coat similar in texture to sheep’s wool. There are three distinct grooming styles for show Poodles: puppy clip, continental clip, and English saddle clip. The puppy clip entails shaving the face, throat, feet, and base of the tail. The upper legs and hindquarters are also shaved in the continental clip (currently the most popular), leaving ‘pom poms’ around the ankles. The English saddle clip is similar, but the hindquarters are left mostly unshaved. All show clips require heavy maintenance, thus pet clips commonly entail shorter hair over the entire body. Poodle hair can be formed in a ‘corded’ style, in which the hair is allowed to mat into long, thing rows rather than being brushed out. This is difficult to maintain, and now rare. Toy Poodles do not shed, making them a good match for allergy sufferers, for which reason they are commonly used for crossbreeding.
The Yorkshire Terrier has a very long, straight, silky coat which is golden-brown at the head, chest, and legs and a distinctive steel-grey from the base of the neck to the tip of the tail. The color and texture of the coat are perhaps the most important show trait. Puppy Yorkshire Terriers are born black and tan and gradually attain their natural color. Show dogs are groomed with the hair grown out long (sometimes trimmed to floor-length) and parted down the middle of the back. Yorkies have no undercoat and shed little.
after reading this i think you should be able to decide which one will be best- if you buy from a good reputable breeder not a puppymill or byb both can range from 300-600 bucks or go to the shelter and look there like 250 fixed and all ( you shouldnt breed cuz idt you know much about the breed so ill assume its for companionship)

i think yooh shud get a yorkie! man r they adorable! and they have so many more name options! plus if yooh choose to breed them, their babies sell for alot of money. toy poodles arent that bad, though, they just have bad behavior and they are very stubborn. hard to train, too. yorkies can get out of their yalpin habits quickly. when it coms to sheddin none of them really shed badly, although the toy poodle sheds less. sry my answer is all ova da place. i would go wit da yorkie.

I would do further research on both breeds and chose the one which best suites your needs. Keep in mind that no dog is truly hypoallergenic (designer mutts like the "Schnoodle" are NOT). Never buy from a breeder who sells and breeds "teacups."
