what would you say to a customer bringing in their "TOY" YORKIE?

i hate it it is sooooooo anoying when im grooming a dog and i get a call…."yes id like to make an app" ok what is your dogs breed??? " um toy yorkie" and " can i get a price on a puppy cut?"

ok im like a WHAT??? freakin toy yorkie so im thinkin its another invention so i say ok whats it mixed with ///////i should have known better she was like "oh ITS A TOY YORKIE" so i say screw it and make her the apt give her a quote of 35-40….hopefully its not some kind of gerbil……lol…..ok so im seriously frustrated for tommorow at 7:30 am if she comes in and says TOY yorkie i may just loose it….lol…….ya know…come on…i wantto educate people but jees sometimes you cant win…..toy yorkie…. ha…hey maybe its a toy poodel yorkie lol ah its been a long day..
ooops see spelling and all….im tired
sorry kathy….i vent here because i cant at work and notice sugar im upset with the lady not the "toy" yorkie…lol
patient paws OMG you had me rollin laughin…
shinie..good one
science chick………i see your point im just sayin its hard to keep hearing the same $hit when i respect the breed itself when i understand what it took to create the breed to standard and then hear this rag say a toy yorkie…someyimes it just hits ya..as a groomer anyways

how scary that your a dog groomer complaining like this, I hope to never come across a groomer like you, you have to understand they say "toy" cause most groomers charge by weight as well. Perhaps if you want to keep working with dogs go find a job cleaning up crap all day since your so full of it yourself.

I see your point but you work in that kind of invironment, people are crazy about their pets and in ther eyes their dog is the best, I know cause I feel mine are the cutest there ever was.

I thought yorkies are part of the "toy" breed. Maybe it was her way of saying it was small? WHo knows.

I'd be like…"A toy yorkie? A teacup? No such thing…sorry."

Yorkies belong to the toy group, but I don't think that's what they are talking about…usually when a bad breeder is selling a "toy" something, they are basically selling runts.

Eh, I've heard and seen it all.

"This is my micro miniature Chihuahua"
"Where is it?"
-gust of wind-
"OMG She flew out the window again!"

Blegh.

I'd probably just bite my lip… try to be nice because it is a customer.. but I would refer to it as a yorkie "Ok the cost to groom a yorkie will be approx.. " and the dog would be listed as a yorkie on the schedule.

Let her know that the AKC and the CKC and the WKC( West minister) don't recognize the breed 'toy' Yorkie and to your knowledge you have never seen a 'toy' yorkie. Some 'breeders' sell dogs as toy breeds to get more money

you should ask them - what? toy yorkie?? u have a stuffed yorkie u want me to groom??? then they will be like no it's a real living dog, then u'll be like ohh u mean a yorkie, cuz there's no such as a "toy yorkie"

I would not risk my job over their ignorance. She will just call you stupid, she obviously is not open to reason if you bought the damn thing and is insisting it is a "toy Yorkie". Take her money and laugh as much as you want, just try not to get fired or risk hurting your own business.

There is ONE size of Yorkie- and they are supposed to be under 7 lbs. Only bad breeders would call it a toy, and even then I doubt there would be a big difference in price.

ADD: I would definitely refuse to adress it as a toy, and if it comes up you can inform her that you only use real breed names in your shop and while she can call her dog whatever she would like you will be just calling her a yorkie. I would not go out of my way to create conflict here through.

and Don't Litter has a good point, getting nicer not only means they can't complain but it will also tick them off the most. You can see some pretty spectacular breakdowns when someone is yelling at you and all you do is smile :)

I groomed a "teacup" Yorkie just tonight actually. The dog was 2 lbs, I only used a fluff dryer on it because I was afraid I WOULD blow the thing out the window (lol PP). Whenever people call and make stupid comments like that I always emphasize when I continue the conversation that there YORKIE will cost this much. Since we also have a problem with overgrown toy breeds in our area I always have to ask the weight of Poms and such. And I always say "Well since the breed standard of such and such is this, and our prices go by breed standard, your price could go up". Or when people call with Cockapoos and Doodles, I always tell them I can't give them a price on their mixed breed without seeing it first. It's so much more fun to be "educationally" rude instead of outright rude.

Oh and with b*tchy customers, our policy is to get nicer as they get more mad. That way when they complain, what can they say? They were SO nice to me! OMG!
