Extremely important questions about Yorkshire Terriers! I need help ASAP!?

Alright, so I've been speaking to this breeder who sold my sister a Maltese about 11 years ago. Her yorkies had a litter of two about four weeks ago and she's selling me her $1000 male for $800 since I'm a family friend. This is, probably the most important day of my life and one of the scariest purchases I will ever make. I normally adopt my pets thinking they're right for me but they usually aren't so I have to give them to my friends. This time around I want to do it right, I want to be able to look at my puppy 11 years from now and be completely blissed out and happy with my purchase. I want to know every single detail, how much do males normally weigh? are they bigger than the females? is 800 for a male yorkie who comes with shots and papers a good deal? Am I getting screwed over? Help me pleaseeeee! :)

Oh and the mother of the puppies is a "toy" and the father is a "teacup" I know there is no such thing as those categories but I'm putting it there so you can have an idea of the size of the parents.
I would be a first time owner for a yorkie but not for a maltese since she lives with me and I care for her. I know what it's like to maintain a long haired dog since I also own a champion shih-tzu. And the breeder hasnt called her puppies "teacup" or "toy" I'm just saying that they are very small dogs and from an outsiders point of view, they would be seen as that.

If you email me full body pictures of the parents and their weights and the current weight and age of the puppy and what registry they are with, I can give you an estimate as to how close the parents meet the breed standard and about how big the puppy will mature to be and a price range. I can tell very little about the quality of a 4 week old puppy, unless the defect is very obvious.

Males in the same litter on the average are smaller than females, but there is a wide range of weights in Yorkies from 3 to 20 pounds. Males almost always are priced lower than females. This puppy could take after the father in size or the mother or a past relative (puppy size doesn't mix like paint and come out medium sized).

When purchasing a Yorkie, I have passed by a minimum of 10 (probably more than that if I count the phone calls I never even wanted to see) before finding one suitable. Since it is a breed that brings a high price there are a lot of poor quality specimens out there.

Yorkies are very small dogs. I have a 5 pound and a 10 pound yorkie. They are very high maintenance as well. Be sure and do your research before getting one. I would never recommend this breed to non experienced dogs owners.

800 is not too high for a yorkie. But make sure the parents have all the nessessary testing done and are registered.

EDIT:
I hate it when people say the smaller the dog, the higher the vet bills. That is not nessessarily true. Large breed dogs can get sick just as much and as severe as small breed dogs. The larger the dog the more medicine it needs, the more medicine it needs the higher the bill. Yes runts have more problems but not all small breed dogs are runts.

Nope. Do NOT buy from that breeder– If she claims to breed/own teacup dogs, then you are being screwed! She is just another Back Yard breeder. More than likely, your puppy will end up dieing early on, because of bad health.

Before you buy from a breeder, be sure that they provide a 2 year health guarantee, the parents are OFA and heart certified (all clearances), AKC registered, and the parents are show champions in the rink. Be sure to do a lot of research on the breeder!

Look on this website for reputable Yorkie Breeders:

Overall, do not buy from her.

Anywhere from 3-7 pounds. 800 is as good as any deal for a puppy, but it is up to the BREEDER whether or not to include the shots and papers…but I doubt it. Just from the size of the dog's parents, that puppy will run your paycheck out due to vet bills.

My Golden Jewel hit the nail on the head, do not buy a pup from her, anyone saying they have a "teacup" or "toy" yorkie is not a good breeder and it is likely that the pups will have health problems from being bred from runt parents, if you want a yorkie pup, I would go for a different breeder all together

Any breeder who uses the terms "toy" and "teacup" is shady. Something is not right there. Its also strange that she breeds Maltese and Yorkies. Usually a good breeder focuses on one type of dog and knows that breed like the back of their hand, i.e. enough not to use those stupid terms. I'm glad you did research about it and know that thats a scam.

$800 for a yorkie isn't a bad price. Talk to your sister though: did she have any problems when she got her puppy? You also want to meet the parents and see where the puppy was raised. If you get the feeling that something isn't right, go with your gut instinct.

The standard for a yorkie is 3-7 lbs. Males can be a little larger that females, but it isn't a rule. Check out the AKC website for more details. Be aware that yorkies can be hyper, tend to think they are rottweilers, chase small animals, and are often barkers. They also require a lot of grooming.

Another thing you should do is check into your state's laws regarding puppy sales. See what you are protected from by law, like if the puppy is sick and needs surgery. In some places, the breeder is responsible for congenital problems but this isn't always the case. No matter what kind of "deal" she gives you, if the puppy's health isn't guaranteed to some degree, you run the risk of spending a lot more money and experiencing a lot of heartache.

hi,

Small in size but big in personality, the Yorkshire Terrier makes a feisty but loving companion. The most popular toy breed in the U.S., the "Yorkie" has won many fans with his devotion to his owners, his elegant looks, and his suitability to apartment living.
