How can I stop my yorkshire terrior from barking and crying for everything?
I have a yorkshire terrier and she is very play full, I play with her every time she brings me a toy but the problem is she cries for everything and she spends the whole day barking and when people come over all she does is bark and cry to get their attention and then when they stroke her she wees herself and carries on crying and barking.
Another problem is when I take her out on walks. She also barks at everyone and everything she sees. How can I stop this. Its very embarrasing and fustrating when she does this.
Consider what's making your dog bark. Does he need yard access? Is a cat taunting him through the window? Does he just like the sound of his bark?
Step2
Check your pet's basic needs: hunger, thirst or elimination. Your pup might be trying to tell you something.
Step3
Remove your dog's motivation for barking. For example, make a dog door for easy outdoor access or close the shades.
Step4
Invest in a citronella no-bark collar, which is effective and not cruel; if your dog barks, the collar sprays a small amount of citronella, which dogs dislike.
Step5
Use positive reinforcement to train your dog to bark on command; this will help him learn how to be quieted on command as well.
Step6
Say "Good" at the exact instant your pet exhibits good behavior, followed by a reward and plenty of praise.
Step7
Consult a board-certified veterinary behaviorist or a pet behaviorist for additional suggestions if all else fails.
hope it helps!

bark collar.

terriers are very high strung and easily excitable. It helps if you are very calm around her. Dogs pick up on emotions, so you get excited, so does she. A barking dog is also a protective one. Be sure to let her know that she has no reason to worry about guests. You might also check out a book or site about Victoria Stillwell.

My friend is a pet trainer, and she said to get a spray bottle filled with 1 part apple cider vinegar to 3-4 parts water and mix it up… when your Yorkie barks or cries spray him (not stream… but spray) in her face. It will stop her from barking and won't sting her eyes. Another way you can do this is by getting a 20oz soda bottle (plastic ones) and fill it a quarter of the way with pennies (or other loose change) and when she barks pull out the bottle and give it one swift strong shake at her (close to her) the noise will scare her and she will stop barking. Do this for about a week and you will notice a VAST improvement on the barking issue.

lol Get a different breed of dog. Seriously though, yorkies are just that way. I'm not saying it cannot be done, but generally they will always be high strung like most small dogs.
Just wanted to add that although the spray bottle may work for some, a lot of times it won't. Most dogs will just run from you but keep barking, or they will bark if they see you don't have the bottle in hand. Positive reinforcement is probably your best bet. Consult a dog trainer specializing in clicker training.
