My family and I want a yorkshire terrier. Is this a good pet if you want to snuggle with it?

Hello. Over the past couple of days, I have been researchinmg toy dog breeds. I want an affectionate dog that I can snuggle with, and dress up. And I want it to be small. I've been mainly intersted in yorkshire terriers, matleses, westies, and silky terriers. Which of the follow might be good for me? Or do you have any ideas of what dog might be good for me?
And are teacup yorkies and different than regular yorkies besides that they are smaller?
My family used to own a pet supply/grooming shop. We sold the shop and now we have tons of combs, clothes, toys and grooming tools. I am willing to brush the dog as much as it needs. I have very long hair and have to maintain my hair every night, and I like brushing it, so as long as it takes less than an hour I'm okay with it.

A dog's breed does not guarantee personality. I've seen small dogs who hate any type of cuddling.
And really, if all you want a dog for is to dress up and snuggle with him/her, get a stuffed animal.

Most toy breeds are affectionate and u can snuggle with them, I suggest u look more into their needs, and which would be best for u, like the whole grooming, cost, price, etc… not the snuggle-dress up factor

I do not condone dressing dogs up, i am very much against that btw

If u want a nice relaxed dog, TRAIN IT, dont expect them to be sweet and cuddly since there small, most of the aggressive dogs ive come across, have been small, since their owners dont think they need training…

breeds don't guarantee personality traits
but if you want a dress up dog, you could get a chihuahua cuz they usually NEED the clothes to stay warm

It really depends on the dogs personality. My boyfriends aunt has 5 Yorkshire terriers… some like to be held and cuddled… and others don't like to be touched at all. The same thing with clothes– some are fine wearing clothing, and others are not big fans.

With whatever breed you choose, it's going to come down to the personality of the dog.

mostly any dog can be snuggled with and dress up. it's just how well you treat them with love, kindness and compassionate.

Dressing a dog with long hair ruins it's coat and causes nasty matting, which means you'll have to keep it shaved. Keep this in mind since all the dogs you picked are long-haired.

Yorkies can go either way. Yes, they do like to snuggle. However, they are a terrier breed, which means they are also hyper, playful, and fiesty. Westies are not lapdogs in any sense, they are high energy working-type terriers. Silkies aren't much for cuddling either. Both Westies and Silkies can weigh 10-15lbs.

Honestly, I would suggest you look into something more like a Shih Tzu or Bichon, something with a calmer temperment than the dogs you picked. Some Maltese MIGHT fit your description, but the other 3 really don't. And like I said- you can have long hair or clothes, not both!

I would also suggest you do a LOT of research- you should not get a dog because you want something small to dress up. Get a doll if that's what you want. Dogs belong on the ground, with their natural "clothing" only, being treated like dogs, not babies. Dogs who are treated like babies become spoiled, fussy, mean, and often bite. I've seen a lot of owners become prisoners to their dogs because they cannot take them anywhere, cannot have people over, cannot find a groomer or vet who will accept them due to their aggressiveness, etc. It's very sad for the dog and the owner.

What sounds isn't always good. I had a neighbor that had a yorkie, and was the meanest dog I ever met. I have a pug and they are the most humorous dogs I have ever come across. Very cuddly dogs and love to be with you. Now that doesn't mean that dog is good for you. You have to research, how much exercise they are going to need, health history, what is their temperament, are they easy to train? Go and see the pup before you decided. Try laying the puppy on their back in your curve of your arm (like you would when your holding a baby). If they stay like that and not fight you on it, they tend to be more passive. Watch how they are with the other pups and see if they are more dominant then others or a stand back and watch kind pup. These are traits on what kind of dog you may get if you don't ob severe how they behave. Aggressive, dominant dogs, tend to be the ones taking charge. Doesn't mean they are going to be a bad dog, just means that they may take more of your time. They will be the ones getting into trouble. I personally prefer the lazy type, that likes play on occasion but not every second of the day.

Just little tibits to look out for in choosing a dog/puppy for you.

Do you have an idea on how much you will spend in grooming with any of these breeds??? even if you learn to groom yourself you'll need to spend a lot in implements, shampoos, dematters, brushes, etc. And please, I know that dressing up might be nice, but if you get a maltese or a yorkie don't put a big pompom on top of his head, that looks ridiculous.

Well, that's pretty hard, because the breed of dog only describes what an AVERAGE dog would be like. Not all are the same, it's statistics. But, maltese's don't shed as much as yorkshire terriers, or the other way around. But, I do know that yorkshire terriers require specific things, depending on how long you want the hair to grow. You can put a bow on it if the hair is long, but, you need to brush it's hair AT LEAST everyday. It's hard, but all worth it in the end. Also, some breeds require certain health care specifics, and it might not like dressing up or being dressed up. A dog I know will bite it's clothes whenever we put clothes on it. So we stopped. It was way happier. But, it's all responsibilities in the end. You've got to take care of it, not play with it and leave it in the end. Try a female maltese, I know one and it's a cutie and a softy. Hope it helps.

Yorke's are a very small breed of dog and take a lot of care especially the hair! If you have small children I wouldn't get this type of dog. Small children have a tendency to be rough on small pets which can make them mean. I always wanted a Yorkie but was afraid my kids would hurt it. I ended up getting miniature schnauzers. They are a little more stout. They are for the most part good natured. They are family oriented dogs and usually protective of family members. They usually don't get bigger than 14 inches tall. They don't shed like some breeds. I have three right now a male 12inches tall, a female 11 inches tall and a female that is about 9 inches tall. They listen most times better than the kids! I had them housebroken in less than two weeks. They love attention! And if your brave enough to clip them yourself it really isn't that hard. I don't normally dress mine up but they all have sweaters that they wear when the weather is bad. Mine fight over who gets to sit on my lap! They push each other off so that they can be close to me. The ones that lose usually lay on my feet unless someone else is close that they can lay with.
