Toy poodle
Shih Tzu

also if any of you own these dogs, what are there pros and cons.
as in shedding ect.

thank you all.
im trying to convince my dad to get it from the pound also.

First, you should never rush to find the right dog for you. Remember that looks should be the very last thing when choosing to bring a dog into your home. You should find a breed with a temperament that suites your life and household.

All dogs are going to shed even single coated breeds.

The Bichon family of dogs, which include the poodle, bichon frise, havanese, and several others, tend to be affectionate and intelligent. However, they can be quite active and sometimes snippy.

The Spaniel family of dogs, which include the Papillon, Phalène, and Maltese, are more sedate and even tempered. They also tend to stick very close to their owners at all times. My Phalène follow me all day long from room to room, even into the bathroom. The con of owning a breed in the Spaniel family is that they tend to be somewhat aloof with strangers and if not properly trained they can be very possessive of their owners.

Dogs in the Terrier family such as the Yorkie, the Silky, and Russian Toy tend to be more independent and active. They make excellent watch dogs and will alert you to the slightest noise by barking. They are protective of their owners and do not get along well with other dogs. The two Russian Toys that I have play very rough, something my Phalène do not like. The RTs squabble over toys and chewies. Most of the time I have to keep them separated from the Phalène, because they are just too rowdy.

How much care in grooming are you willing to do? Do you want something high maintanence that you will have to brush everyday? Almost all of those breeds need daily grooming. So I would think of this when deciding.

I have a chocolate lab, a cocker spaniel, and a yorkie. I think you should get a Yorkshire, because they are small, friendly, lovable dogs. They don’t shed hair and if anyone you live with is allergic to dogs, yorkies have a different kind of hair that people aren’t allergic to. Like human hair.

I have 2 papillons. I love my dogs and wouldn't trade them. Most of them are easy to train, I got mine at 1 and 2 years old and trained them quickly. Their coats are very low maintenance. They say they don't shed because they have no undercoat, but they do shed, just as bad as any other dog. Papillons have cute personalities and are very loyal, one owner dogs.

get a dog from the humane society, any dogs that come from a pet store come from a puppy mill, and their moms are treated like crap and basically bread to death. 98% of dogs that come from pet stores originate from puppy mills. I saw it on Oprah! lol.

well all of the ones you listed need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks depending on how often you are brushing and bathing. A yorki, yorki poo, maltese, toy poodle, bichon, and a shihtzu do not shed much if at all. I dont actaully think I have ever seen a Phalene, and do not know too much about a Papillion. All are very nice dogs and have quite a bit of energy. I would take the time to do alot of research and find just the right dog, and/or breeder.

These are all small dogs, preferable for an apartment.
I would go for a mixed breed (I question why anyone would want a pure-breed); less health issues and far less psychological/emotional issues that are inherent in some small dogs.
Please consider adopting a seniour pup in need.

I’m sorry I forgot the website but go to your yahoo search and type in : the dog for me quiz. Then when the thing pops up find the dog for me quiz , click that. Then it will refresh with the first choice , I went there and it was really helpful. They ask you all type of questions like what size dog you prefer , your schedule, if your active or lazy, and what type of dog personality wise fits you. Trust me these questions will help find the best match for you. Let me also remind you though that yes dogs fit there breed traits but each dog has there own personality! Unless you are ready for a destructive puppy, get a dog that is full grown but young. That way there personality is already developed and you know what you are getting yourself into.

you should get a small dog since you live in an apartment! big dogs will make your neighbors go wild lol =) i think you should get a chiuhuahua. but be aware: chiuhauas need lots of love and attention. they HATE to be alone and where ever you go, make sure to bring the pup with you in a puppy bag or on a leash. plus, he’ll be happy, and you’ll be happy. also, make sure that the chiuahua is bath room trained. my friend has a chiuhaua and he’s bathroom trained hope this helped. help me plz thanx =)

Get you puppy from a puppy mill. Breeders have made it so that you can get a puppy in no other way. That’s why there all in Omaha, and charge $1000 for a single puppy…yea, the breeders care all right..they care about the almighty dollar…get a puppy mill dog..they need homes too. And if breeders weren’t so greedy and bred dogs in all cities…THERE WOULD BE NO PUPPY MILLS…but then the breeders wouldn’t be rich, would they?

if you don’t have to have a pure- bred i would look into getting a pup from a shelter so many without homes… but you have to have all of the dos groomed that u listed.. bichon is a very good all around dog.. don’t shed.. not biter and always ready to do something. my mom bred them so i know a lot about them but you have to look carefully.. make sure you get it from a good breeder.. make sure the parents eyes and hips have been checked..

I don’t know much about little dogs, except for the toy poodle. My in-laws have had many. They are good with kids, they don’t shed, and they are good indoor dogs. I had a friend that had a palm. and they don’t live that long, they shed up a storm and it barked all the time. Good luck … just remember dogs take ALOT of work.
