My girlfriends toy Yorkshire terrier was not acting herself. Later that evening we noticed she was not breathing normal(like she was gasping for air). We then picked her up to listen closely and felt a lump on her lower part of her neck. She immediately ran her to the emergency clinic. They wouldn't start treatment until payment was paid in full. They obviously worried about not being paid rather then the animals health. I think something else killed her, they are claiming poison. I just want to know if it could be poioning or something else. She obviously didn't survive.
I understand ER clinics wanting a deposit, but it is impossible for you to have paid in FULL before treatment had even begun. How can you pay when they don't even know what is the cause of her distress? Even they don't know, they can give a rough estimate such as blood work, radiographs, emergency fee, etc., but full payment up fromt BEFORE treatment…???? No.
I'm really sorry this has happened, but there are details missing….
No one will know what caused the death of your little dog, but you can get a Post Mortem done, if you do want to know.

I'm not sure. Is it possible she swallowed part of a cooked bone or rawhide and it got lodged in her throat? That would explain the bump.
Sorry for your loss.

When an animal eats rat poison it makes them bleed internally. All the organs bleed and quickly it kills them. There abdomen gets a little swollen. Its really inhumane. Its probably poisoning that killed her.

Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss, thats heart-breaking. If you truly believe that is wasn't the poison that killed her then you need to ask for an autopsy – and quick! you should also consider reporting that vet for malpractice – he should never have delayed treatement for the sake of money – if he's just in it for the money then he needs to question himself on his morals! Use my words if you wish in your letter to his boss and to the Vetenary School Of Medicine or the University, he really needs taking to task over this. Whose to say your girlfriends dog would have passed away if he started treatment sooner instead of haggling over cash??? Very sad. No-one here can tell you what she died of, that will come out at the autopsy and i think apart from finding out the truth, you need to be of great comfort to your girlfriend, she's obviously devastated and will be feeling very low, as of course you will be – be there for each other and find justice for that little girl. Best of luck, take care.
