My Friend’s Yorkie’s Hair Is Too Long?

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

My friends yorkie has short little tummy hairs but then like there is this one hair and its on his penis and its nasty and we want to cut it, because after he pees its all gross and wet and ya… Soo can we remove with regular scissors? Because I want to, random but true! Thanks guys!!

Yes, the hair can be cut off. Do not cut the dog. If you’re afraid to do it yourself, take the dog to a groomer and ask for a "sanitary trim".

Yorkie Whole Body Hair Cut?

Friday, April 29th, 2011

I got my pup 2 month ago, the backyard breeder who sold me this dog was very bad. Feed him low-quality food such as Beneful, and only feed him little each time ( because he dont want my pup to get bigger ). Also my pup was having serious flea problems on all over his body. I think these are the reasons my pup got dry ,dull and thin hair. After i brought him i feed him premium grain-free dog food. Did all the shots and apply frontline plus on him. His new hair is shiny and beautiful. So should i cut all his old,dry and dead hair??
He is eating salmon oil everyday.

It sounds like your puppy had a rough time before he found you and he’s very lucky to have you being so attentive to his needs!

If you live where it’s warm this time of year, you could do that but it’s not necessary. If you live where it’s cold, I would leave it. Also, if you bathe him and then follow the bath with a leave in moisturizing cream rinse, that will make a world of difference in his coat.

He should be eating a puppy formula for a small breed dog. It does not have to be grain free. Sometimes the premium foods are too high in protein for a puppy and will cause diarrhea and the grains help give fiber that he needs for regular bowels. But the puppy formula has a different percentage of protein, calcium and other minerals necessary for forming healthy bones, and it is a little bit more nutrient dense, which is also important since puppy tummies are tinier.

If you are giving WSO every day, you are probably giving too much. I would cut back to no more than three times weekly if you are using the 500 mg capsules. If you are using the liquid, 500 mg three times a week is more than enough. He will need a small amount of Vitamin E added to his diet or he won’t absorb it properly anyway. He should get a 100 mg capsule once weekly.

Although his commercial food will have adequate Vitamin E to meet his needs, it won’t have enough to properly metabolize the the additional WSO which is why you need a supplement.

The supplement that I find helps the most for skin and coat problems is evening primrose oil. Again, because of his small size, I would give a 500 mg capsule 3-4 times weekly. You can alternate with the WSO, giving one or the other each day.

Lastly, up to six months of age, Yorkies tend to do better on multiple smaller feedings a day – 3-4 feedings a day. After that, you can stick with three and gradually reduce to two once he’s a bout 10 months old. But Yorkie puppies have a tiny tummy and tons of energy and they need the calories. They can’t always get as many calories as they need in the two feedings and if they are given too much, they may not absorb the nutrients as well (or not at all if they don’t finish a meal). It works better to spread their feedings out more until they are a little older.

How Long Would It Take for My Yorkie’s Hair to Grow Back?

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

So my Yorkie got his hair trimmed and I thought his legs should be cut a little more so I started snipping here and there and it ended up to look HORRIBLE. Can anyone tell me how long it takes to go back to it’s normal length? Or how to make it grow faster? Thanks.

Actually you can make her hair grow faster i had the same problem with mine. feed her a spoonful of peanut butter once a day. its very healthy for their coat and makes the fur grow back faster and healthier as ever. so not only are you helping your dog grow that beautiful coat back but also a healthy coat :) hope it helped.

Yorkie Lion Cut,Grooming Tomorrow,Cant Find Photo?

Friday, January 14th, 2011

My yourkshire terrier is getting a hair cut tomorrow. But I cant find a right picture (I WILL NOT RISK THE GROOMER DOING SOMETHING WRONG AGAIN!!!)
could you please give me links to a few kinds of a lion cut?

-mainly short hair
-bald ears
-medium lenght around head
-underbelly hair left

thank you

I have never seen a yorkie with a lion cut.

They don’t have the hair for that type of cut.

I think you may need to research what you want a bit more.

If you get a good groomer you can show and tell them exactly what you want…it’s their job to make you happy.

How to Cut a Yorkie’s Hair?

Friday, December 10th, 2010

i wanna cut my yorkie hair any tips u guys can give me…

Go to a dog groomer! Not a professional groomer specific for grooming, that’s not the only option. Pet stores often have groomers for lower price and just as good of service!

Help Me With My Yorkie’s Hair Please!!!!?

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

I have a little yorkie 1 and half years. and she is a little girl. she is a very lovely dog but her hair is not very long. I cut her hair once when he was about 7 months old. until now her hair still very short about 13cm long. just covered her body but not like other yorkies have very long hair almost reach the floor. I know hair is a genetic thing. I tried cod liver oil to feed her but it seems not work well. is there any other way I can do to make her hair become longer? thanks very much!!!

Depends on your dog, also depends on your breeder.
Yorkies don’t fully mature (coat & color wise) until they reach 2 – 3 years of age, that means that the coat will not automatically be the length of champions.

One thing I would suggest is find a shampoo/conditioner that works for you (I know many show kennels that would recommend Yorkie Splash & Shine, I too would recommend it), and start putting the coat in wraps and really just taking care of it.

There are many articles on Yorkie hair care, but here is one that I find very reputable and might be of interest to you:

Triming Our Yorkie’s Hair in His Face?

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

We just got a yorkie from the local humane society and we got his hair cut but we have been trying to cut the hair around his eyes and in his face and he freaks out and won’t let us. IS there anyone out there that has any advice for us to be able to get this done?

I suggest you stop before stressing dog or possibly injuring. Go to groomer & ask for either a trim on face only or to show you how to trim safely. Some things are best left to pros.

I Cut My Yorkie Hair Annd He Now Has Little Spots With Just His Skin Out Without Hair, What Should I Do ?

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

im worried if hes ok that way until the hair grows back or should i go to a vet and get treatment for him ? im putting neosporin on his spots everyday now …. please help

you shouldn’t worry too much, its probably relieving for your yorkie because it is hot nowadays. But if he stays outside for a long period of time, you might want to use some sun block on him. Dogs can get sunburned too. no joke. Other then that just let it grow out.

Should I Get My Yorkie’s Hair Cut to Help Cool Him Down Over Summer?

Tuesday, June 15th, 2010

I have an 8 month old male yorkie. His hair is not overly long, but unfortunately has become matted in parts. I’m not sure what to do – he is the first dog I have ever had. As it is coming up to summertime, I thought about having his hair clipped, as he seems to get hot sometimes when the weather’s warmer. Is this a good idea? Will his hair grow back? (I don’t really want a short-haired dog forever). If I don’t get his hair cut, how can I get rid of the matting? (And also – will the parts that are matted need to be cut really short?). I’m in a dilemma – I just want what’s best for him. He’s a nervous little dog, as well, and I’m sure the experience will really stress him out. Is it cruel NOT to have him clipped over summer? How can I cool him down otherwise? Any suggestions much appreciated.

Yes, take to groomer for their opinion since they can see dog unlike us. Dogs with long hair do not need hair cuts to be cooler if their coats are well kept. Matted coats does add to dog being hotter as air can’t get to thru coat as in a well brushed coat. Yorkies require plenty of regular grooming on the part of owners so you need to learn how to care for your dog properly. Ask the groomer to show you the proper way to maintain dog. De-matting is painful even when done by experienced ppl so clipping is the more humane choice for now.
