Abused Yorkie?

the other day my friend and i saw a girl (about12 years old) chasing her little yorkie down the street so we stoped for them when he ran across the street and she caught him we expected her to love on him because she was so happy nothing happend to him but instead she started hitting him really hard on the top of the head! i could beleive what i was seeing infact all my friend and i managed to do was give her some dirty looks and after we left all we could talk about is what we should have done. we couldn't call animal control because we don't know where the girl lives and everyone has yorkies up there but this one had a weird hair cut. so yesterday i saw this dog running down the road again and i wanted to take him but if i took him to animal control they'd just give him back to her. what should i do if i see this poor little dog again?
i hate it when everyone assumes that humane societies are everywhere, we don't have one the closest one is 300 miles away and they wouldn't even help us with the 100+ husky raid that happend a few months ago

That poor dog!! This little girl's parents need to be told what their daughter is doing. Let them know what you have witnessed and that you are fully willing to call animal control or a Yorkie rescue!!

Edit: We dont have any rescues around here either. But my vet helped my parents when they were fighting to keep the abused German Shepard that was running around our neighborhood. This dog was "owned" by a man down the road that kicked this gorgeous dog and threw beer cans at him. My parents caught him when he was out one afternoon, took him to the vet to document the abuse, and then pushed to keep the dog as their own. The vet stood behind my parents as they fought the nasty man.

This girl's parents still need to know that people are watching!!!

This is one reason why people say dogs and children don't mix – especially badly mannered and badly taught children. (Especially for small dogs!)

I would say next time if you see the dog, take him to animal control and tell them what you saw. Obviously, the little girl being 12 years old would have to take her parents to reclaim the dog (if they're that responsible). You can hope that if the parents find out, they will tell the child otherwise.

    Best of luck..

i would find her mommy and tell her about this.
if you see the dog again take him see if he has tags on and write down the address and number.

i would try to find out where his or her home is and talk to them or take the dog to animal control. Its up to you. But dont get involved if you dont want conflict!
    good luck
Ps check the tags on the dog the next time you see the puppy and go and talk to the parents but remember what i said above!

Take it to the Humane Society, and tell them EXACTLY what's going on. You can call animal control on them if they keep a collar and ID tags on this dog.

Take him to the humane society and tell them what you saw. Or call the police. Animal cruelty is a crime and people who are abusive toward pets are not allowed to have them in their home.

take the dog. chances are the little girl is learning this behavior at home. animal control will investigate. it's even possible the girl is being abused and taking it out on the dog. i saw this once and the little boy ended up killing his kitten.

Shelby, i'm sorry. i forgot. you live in the same type of area i do. what about the police?

This is the result of parents buying yorkies to their girls as a fashion accessory. The girl then becomes bored of the responsibility and doesn't really care for the poor dog. Next time try to identify where that stupid worm lives and then give a call to the city, at least where I live the city also manages complains about dogs.

I agree with Isis. The girl learned to hit the dog from someone, most likely the parents. If you see the dog again, take it to animal control and explain what you saw. They will investigate anyone who tries to claim the dog, since you put in the complaint about the dogs owners. Hopefully, animal control would be able to help.

Talk to the mother of the child and maybe even ask to take it and find it a good home to a family member or friend or even post it on the internet.

I would have stoped and talked to the girl, taken the girl and the dog to the parents and explained what I saw and that it could be consider animal abuse. then advised them to enroll the dog in a trianing class where responsible pet training and ownership is the focus. As many dogs run when not properly trained, this could be a simple case of improper training of the dog and improper supervision of the child in care of the dog. bad advise is give by anyone who has an opinion about animal care. Including some so called experts. pet ownership and Dog training profession are not well regulated. abuse can happen any where and not be punished, except in extreme cases, this is a problem.

    This calls for drastic measures!
Next time you see the yorkie, grab it, gently,
and if the girl comes after it, tell her that
this dog isnt hers and that it is now animal controls or if you live in cali, tha animal polices'.
