Grooming a Yorkie Poodle Mix?

I have poodles, and I groom them myself, and a friend of mine has a yorkshire terrier/poodle mix she asked if I could groom for her. the problem is I am not sure how they do it. A poodle cut and a yorkie cut are practically opposites. So how does one go about groom them? I thought about grooming him like a yorkie but he has poodle ears….on the other hand I can not clip him like a poodle because his hair isnt thick enough and it would make him look super skinny. Does anyone have grooming instructions for this cross? or know where to get them? thank you

You have to ignore the patterns and do what will bring out the best in the dog. Sometimes just using a no. 1 guard blade all over will enhance the features and be really cute.

Without a picture to reference, I would guess to just trim the body the same length all over, and then just trim up the ears teddy bear style.

Now you are seeing why most groomers charge at least double to groom these mixes because they are much tougher to do.

There are no instructions. You just have to do what you can. The coat often goes every which way so the best you can do is make it look decent. My neighbout has a Maltese/Poodle mix. She has to get it clipped every 2-3 weeks or it looks like it's having a really bad hair day. It's got worse the older the dog gets too. She just keeps her's really short. At least it's pretty tidy that way.

I would give any Poo mix a puppy cut. Trim face and feet, about 3/4" long everywhere else. Makes upkeep easy and doesn't require a lot of thought. And, most importantly, it keeps the dog comfortable and cleaner than a longer coat.
