How can I relieve my Yorkie's constipation?
I just got a 6 yr old Yorkie off a woman that said she just didn't have time for him. After trimming his hair and cutting all the mats off him, I found the cutest little pooch ever. Now we have a problem. When he poos, he hollers. I clean his poo up and these little nuggets are like rocks. I've looked up online for remedies and found only one…canned pumpkin. So, I put some in his food. Any other suggestions? Or should this work? And how long will it take? Is there a doggie enemas or laxatives that I can get at PetCo or something?? I can't stand this little guy hurting like that and I want to put a stop to it so he can be comfortable. He's such a doll and had such a rough life before coming to us. The woman said something like 4 or 5 different homes!!! Please help!
The food the woman provided and said he eats is Pedigree canned food and Kibbles and Bits dry….he's only so far eaten once a day in the mornings since we got him…and I offer him food 3 times a day because he eats so little when he does eat. And obviously he has clean water all times.
Try giving him a little bit of mineral oil. My friend is a vet and that's what she told me to do when my dog got a hold of a chicken bone and ate it. You can just put a little bit into his food.

He's a new dog for you. Have you taken him to the vet for a check up? Your vet will be able to help with the constipation problem too. You don't want to mess around with "doggy enemas" — you could hurt him.
Also, I'd recommend you get him on a good quality dog food (Canidae, Innova, Wellness) Pedigree and Kibbles & Bits are among the worst.
But schedule a trip to the vet for sure.
P.S. It sounds like he is in MUCH better hands with you. Thank you for rescuing him.

I would swtich his food to something that is high quality too. She said he eats pedigree which isnt great, and she probably didnt take super care of him. I'd try a quality wet food until his bowels improve. Eukanuba or Iams is good quality wet food that isnt super costly, also Canidae or Innova make great wet food too, but they are a lot more exspensive and out the range for the average pet owner.

Add psyllium (Metamucil in the adult world) to his diet. Half a teaspoon twice a day, in addition to drinking plenty of water, will suffice. Another method would be mineral oil. This may be used in cases where there is a large build-up of hard stool. Two teaspoons, twice a day should be added to his meal, but for only a week

one really good and effective way to help him is to give him milk and honey. The milk will break it up and the honey will coax it so it will come out easier. I know what it is like to have that problem with a dog. It works there is no harm trying it even if it doesn't work on him. but I hope it does for his sake I love dogs and hate to see, or hear of them, in pain. So I hope all goes well.
