My yorkie has a cut on his bottom, picture included! wondering if it's a just a scrape? opinions appreciated!!?
Hi! I was picking up my little yorkie and noticed that it was a little bit wet on his bottom. So I initially thought that it might have been his poop because when his hair starts growing out, sometimes a little gets stuck in between his hairs. So as i was cutting his hairs I noticed next to his butt it was a little swollen. So after I finished cutting the hairs some more, I realized that on the swollen area it was cut and there was little blood coming out. I tried to squeeze the area and puss came out. I am wondering if maybe he scraped himself on the cement outside because after he poops he drags his body to like wipe himself on the cement or if something might have bit him I am not sure. My family members are telling me that it looks like it's just a cut. I just wanted to see everyone's opinion on here. Deciding whether I should take him to the vet or not. But i don't want to take him if it's just a little cut that will go away.
He is a "teacup" yorkie and is 4 lbs so anything that happens to him I get extremely worried since he is so small.
Please let me know what you think upon seeing the image

I feel that it is painful for him but he doesn't seem bothered by it (doesn't lick it or even try to scratch it). I am definitely going to take him to the vet. I also thought it's better safe then sorry.
Thanks everyone for your great advice! I took him to the vet and it was as you guys told me an abcess anal gland. The vet put him on clavamox and metacam and she wants to see him again in 2 weeks.
It looks painful, I think that you should take him to the vet so they can put him on antibiotics, if that gets infected and it spreads it could possibly kill him, especially a dog of that size.
Also, it is very likely to get infected because of where the cut is located, it will constanly be in contact with his poop.
Also it could be something else besides a cut.

Umm, gross.

Thats an abcessed anal gland. He needs to see the Vet to get it expressed and put on antibiotics.

take your dog to the vet asap

Has he been nipping at it? Looks irritated, possible ingrown hair? Not certain by photo. How long has he had it? I would head to your pet store, pick up some ointment and wash thoroughly, wait it out 3-5 days and see if it cintinues, before I head to the vet.

I do not really know but it looks like an absess. You may want to take him to the vet. It is better to be safe than sorry.

If there is puss coming out of the wound, better safe than sorry. I'd take him to the vet. It might be nothing but, then again, who knows

Learned from experience. I have 3 dogs.

looks like his anal glad maybe infected. I would take him to the vet ASAP. I can become painful and that is probably why he tries to "wipe" himself on the cement.

I really don't think your dog has cut himself on his butt. Instead it looks like his anal glands are infected. They get really sore, so he will lick the sore part and perhaps make if look like a cut from too much licking.
Do you notice a foul odor coming from the spot? You said you squeezed it and pus came out; and that is what the vet would do, only would make sure he/she got all the infection out.
Like I said before, this is really painful for the dog and must be taken care of immediately by a qualified vet; and they will probably make sure your dog is on antibiotics to help the infection clear up.
Nothing you can do will help this. Sometimes this clears up after being drained and goes away. More likely than not it will be an ongoing problem that will need to be drained and taken care of before it gets to the point where your dogs butt is now.

Had a dog that had an anal gland problem almost constantly.
I know exactly what that is-your yorkie has an anal infection. My dog had one just a couple of months ago…they are kind of gross! You must take your cute little yorkie to the vet but you don't have to worry, it's not an emergency,it just irritates him.
oh,and I just have to say this… There is no such thing as a teacup yorkie. It is just a marketing term that breeders use to help sell puppies. I have a yorkie that's 3 small lbs but she was just the runt. A teacup yorkies don't exist.
Good luck!!!
