How Do I Put My Yorkie's Hair in a Topnot?
Thursday, May 14th, 2009Does Anyone Have a Link to a Good Tutorial for Cutting a Yorkie Poo's Hair With a Clipper? Thanks!?
Wednesday, May 13th, 2009Her hair is kind of curly on top of her head and her body is thick and a little wavy.
Her hair is curly on top of her head, and her body is thick and mostly straight. I already have a groomer (thanks though for the phone book suggestion), but would like to start cutting her hair, hence why I'm asking for a good tutorial to learn it. All groomers started somewhere!
Step 1: Open a phone book
Step 2: Locate a professional groomer
Step 3: Call and make an appointment
Grooming at home without any training will always result in either an aesthetic disaster, or an injured dog.
Can I Cut My Yorkie's Hair?
Thursday, April 30th, 2009I was just wondering if I should cut my yorkie's hair. I comb it everyday but it still looks tangled and curly, it seems very uncomfortable for him. I live in california seems good enough weather. They predict the highest this week for 70 degrees. Can I cut his hair? How long should I wait? I don't want him to get sick. ![]()
well yorkies have thin hair so he should be fine i would suggest not doing it yourself if you've haven't done it before you were saying he looks tangles i've seen too many ppl try to cut their dogs hair when tangled and accidentally cut their dog and usually they wind up getting stitches and for the curly hair blow dry him that should straighten out his hair. go to a local dog groomer but ask around for prices first to see who has the highest and stuff
Does a Yorkie's Hair Have to Be So Long as an Adult?
Monday, April 13th, 2009Does a yorkie's hair have to be so long as an adult? Does its hair have to grow so long like this: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/diva96/2658332_sta1.jpg
Can't the hair stay short if I just cut occasionally or whenever needed like this?: http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m179/diva96/yorkie5-358×4651.jpg
I keep my male yorkie in a puppy cut. So I take him to get a hair cut every 4 months or so.
He's in the pic

What Is This Hair Cut Called for Yorkies?
Sunday, April 12th, 2009Can someone tell me what this cut is called and would it look good on an adult yorkie because i dont want the hair to be super long or anything just to make it look cute, any ideas or names of cuts? Thanks so much

Since everyone has a different interpretation of the names of cuts. The best thing to do is to print the photo and take it with you to the groomers.
Will My Yorkie Hair Grow Back?
Wednesday, April 8th, 2009I was cutting off the hair around his ear and made a bald spot and then he had a skin disease for some where and the vet gave him antibiotics and then his hair fell off of his back? He doesnt look like a yorkie anymore. The balck has fillied back in but the lenght of the hair isnt comeing at all and he is 6 months old and weighs 1.9 pound What can I do?
The vet said that it would grow back but oh my it is taking for ever and the hair I even clipped bhind his ear havent even grown back yet. and that was done first and the skin thing where the hair fell completely out has filled in. And I didnt know that they had puppy hair and that they loose it I thought that Yorkies dont shed
Don't worry about it, your yorkie's fur will grow back, and yorkies shed the only reason most people are not very allergic to them is that they have the same ph value as human hair. So technically they don't have fur is more hair.
How Much Does Grooming for a Yorkie Poo Cost?
Monday, February 16th, 2009i wanna get a yorkie poo in the summer and i was wondering how much it would cost. i would't wanna get alot of hair cut off because i like it when they are furry.
YOU GUYS SHOULD BE MORE RESPECTFUL AND CONSIDERATE OF OTHER PEOPLE FEELINGS. FIRST OFF IT IS A MIX BREED SO WHAT. I DON'T THINK SHE SAID ANYTHING ABOUT BREEDING IT SHE ASK HOW MUCH ITS COST TO GROOM IT. THEY CAN CALL IT A YORKIE POO IF THEY WANT IT IS PART YORKIE PART POODLE. AND MOST ANIMALS START OUT AS MIX BREEDS THEN THEY BECOME A BREED. I'M NOT RECOMMENDING TO MIX BREED BUT I THINK YOU GUYS ARE INCONSIDERATE OF OTHERS FEELINGS. PLUS I THINK IT'S STUPID TO PAY FOR ANYTHING DOG CAUSE PEOPLE ONLY DO IT FOR MONEY. NOT SAYING I DON'T CAUSE I GOT A YORKIE AND PEKE. AND I PAID GOOD BIT OF MONEY BUT I THINK IT RIDICULOUS. IT COST ABOUT 35 DOLLARS AND I APOLOGIZE FOR OTHERS RUDENESS..
Affordable, Good Place to Get My Yorkie's Hair Cut in Santa Monica/ Pacific Palisades?
Tuesday, January 27th, 2009I like Healthy Spot, because they use some non-toxic shampoos, but they are too expensive! Is there any place similar that costs under $40?
I've gone to Petco before – a couple different ones… but what I hate about them is 1. the pricing at each Petco is different, 2. the groomer is always different, so I can't seem to get the same cut. Healthy Spot cost me $60, which is way more than I can afford. I can't even pay that for my own hair, let alone my dog's. I go as long as I can before getting her hair cut but I really don't like it long.
I'm not sure of any good Grooming Shops in that area, I would stay away from the Petco's and Petsmart's.
EDIT> The kids in Petco's and Petsmart grooming are not groomers, they are inexperienced young have no idea how to groom, These stores have a high rate of injuries to dogs because they have no clue what they are doing, These stores will hire any one put them in as bathers then send them off to there joke of a grooming school hand them scissors clippers and a book and a dog told good job in about 3 weeks they come back to these stores still not knowing what to do or how to handle dogs, you can't learn to groom in 3 weeks.. So no if you wish for your dog to be groomed find an independent salon.. I have been in the grooming business for 22 years now, I have people all the time come in to my salon and ask me for help because one of these stores have messed up there dog..
EDIT… No Not all private groomers have worked at those stores at one time I don't know where you got your facts from, got news for ya I have been in this business 22 years there were no Petsamrts and Petco when I started there were only private grooming salons, I get my facts from where I live and the people I know in this line of business and the people that have come into my salon, I know for a fact that the people that learn how to groom from one of those stores has no clue on what they are doing, Yes I know people that work at those stores they are old school groomers yes they know how to scissor they know breed cuts what breeds to shave and those you do not. Your store will not do bathing only, someone can not come in and ask for just a nail trim, I know how those stores work, Not to mention the friends of mine on the inside of those stores and they do not live where I do so yes when you have young inexpereanced people working on dogs with sharp tools dogs are going to get hurt..Over all those stores the groomers do stink…
PLEASE HELP Theres a Lump on My Dog ?
Monday, January 5th, 2009On the 24th I got my yorkie mix hair cut with the dog groomer. When the hair was chopped from his back foot, on top is a massive lump. We hadn't seen it because he has long hair.
Its quite hard blackish and partly red/sore and partly open. Theres no puss. Toby is fine in himself hes eating well , running and is his normal happy self. Toby is 11 years old,
I am taking my yorkie mix to the vet Thursday. I tried to get him sooner but they refused to see him till Thursday they are my only vets.
I am so worried about it I have been crying my eyes out I love my Toby more than anything.
I dont think its cancer because hes fine no pain or anything. My mum thinks it could be an abscess because we live near woodlands and she thinks it could have been grass awns or a bite?
Heres my Toby hes a yorkie mix same size as a westie.

If you get an older pup, say 12 weeks old, then summer training might work.
I have a male, fawn colored, 6 years old spoiled rotten Chihuahua. He was very hard to house break.I also have 2 shih tzu and a rottie. they all live together and the Chi rules the house.Even the rott won't mess with him.I love him to death but he is VERY yappy.I had to buy him some doggie step so he can get up on the couch and bed.lol.
Want some good advice? get a small beagle, they make excellent first time pets, are smart and easy to train. Maybe not fancy like the dogs you want but you can't lose with a beagle.
