Yorkie Hair Cuts

my yorkie is only 10 months old. he always eats cesars dog food but lately my mother has been in town and she has been feeding him human food. his stomach has been hurting, he hasnt been eating right, he threw up twice this morning, and today when we got home from work he had a huge clump of poop stuck on his butt and when we cut the hair back he just kept farting and little drops of poop fell out. now his butt hole is totally stretched out and wide out and he is very tired and weak. what should i do? will he be fine in a little? should i take him to the emergency vet?

You do not say in your question if the 'little drops' of poop were liquid or formed. If these were liquid, then what is making your dog tired is the vomiting and diarrhea. If the 'drops' were solid, it sounds as though your dog had an obstruction, but it was not from the people food directly, it was from the sticky poop causing build up in the fur that created an obstruction that prevented your dog from defecating further. Since you have removed the obstruction, and if your dog is able to drink water, he should start to feel better soon as long as he is able to continue to relieve himself, if an obstruction is the problem. If your dog is dehydrated from vomiting and loose stools, and you are unable to get him to a vet for some reason, our vet has recommended kaopectate for our dogs before for those symptoms in our pet dog. Activated charcoal is also helpful if your pup has eaten something prohibited for dogs.
Also, if your dog has eaten any raisins or grapes, you must take him to the vet immediately before further damage results (raisins and grapes, as well as chocolate, are toxic to dogs.)

I just rescued a dog today who is severely matted. is there a cure i can use to get rid of the mats today? the only other option i can think of is shaving the dog with clippers. I dont want to do this that is why i am asking. I was told by a vet you have to cut the clumps off but they are all the way to the skin. but with the clippers i dont think it will hurt the dog. but. on the same token i want to avoid shaving the dog with clippers so i any advice would be greatly appreciated. and for reference its a small to med size dog was told it was a yorkie but its bigger think its a mix.

Mats that go all the way to the skin are very painful for dogs. They pull the hair whenever the dog moves — ouch! The kindest thing you could do (and probably the only thing at this point) is take him to a groomer and have him shaved down with dog clippers. They often can leave some hair on the ears, head, or tail to make him cuter. As the hair grows back, brush it regularly and always use cream rinse after you wash him (or request your groomer use it).

I have a rat terrier/yorkie mix. I had him groomed several weeks ago. Where I take him they give him two baths, cut his hair, clip nails, etc. He was around other animals also. My question is. Since then I have really noticed him scratching alot. I have tried an oatmeal bath. When I look at the area it has little sores and seems to be getting worse. My other dog got the same treatment minus the hair cut and she has no reaction. I looked up Manges and this is not what it looks like. Any suggestions as to what it is or what to do to help relive his itching?? Thanks for any suggestions.

it could be fleas or dry skin. just in case, i would take him to your vet. they can tell you exactly what it is, then you can treat him accordingly. an itchy pup is an unhappy pup. good luck!! I have a RT and i love her too much. she had the "red mange" when she was a pup. ugh! but i treated her according to vet's suggestion, and now she is perfectly happy, well, and i love her so much. her name is maggie!!

Dolly, my little teacup yorkie, is 2.5lbs and full of energy! I try to comb her as often as possible but I don't get to do it as much as I'd like. Her hair gets tangled so fast! I was thinking of getting her hair groomed to be short, except longer on the feet and face… (some horses have hair in this style).

What do you call this style and is it okay for little yorkies to be cut this way?

NO NO NO!!! You will create matting between the toes. There will be poo & pee and all kinds of yard stuff in the hair and MATTS MATTS MATTS!!! You need to take her to the groomer every 4-6 weeks. Yorkies as pets are clipped in a varity of styles, but even the full coated show groomed yorkies have trimmed feet. A tiny little dog like this should cost you about 25 dollars to get groomed. My yorkie is two years old, and I have not cut her hair. I wanted to keep her black color, but the hair breaks once it reaches a certain length. I use high-end pet shampoos and conditioners, a leave in detangler, and a pick to go through her hair. I also feed her an expensive high quality food. Any suggestions?
I am trying to keep her coat as long as I can. I have been grooming her feet, hiney, and face, but would like to keep her hair healthy and long.

Before I gave her a hair cut her coat was black (blue/tan). I gave my 5 month old female Yorkie a hair cut and her hair is grey now. Will her coat turn/grow black again? Or will it stay grey?
Shes only 5 months tho. That sucks! I should have waited a little longer to cut her hair. ugh! I liked the black coat.

All yorkie puppies are black when they are born. They all change color when they mature. My yorkie is almost 2 years old and he is still changing slightly.
