if you want to… but just know that dogs' coats are meant to protect them from the elements, and that means heat and cold, so be prepared to compensate somehow.

It'll be easier that way for both of you. I'm sure if you've seen pics of yorkies or seen them on tv at dogs shows, the have that long flowing hair that goes all the way to the ground…..That is extremely high maintenance. Most exhibitors will keep the fur in cloth wraps to keep it from getting tangled and keep burrs from getting caught in it.

The shorter you keep the fur, the less likely it is to get matted and get stuff caught in it.

We groom many yorkies into various lengths on the Teddy Bear Clip. We also do schnauzer clips on that breed. If you do the teddy bear clip, you can opt to leave a topknot that can be brushed up into a bow, or scissored into a round face to look like a puppy. The length of the clip is usually decided by your lifestyle, where you live, texture of the hair. Go in and talk to a groomer. Ask them to show you the different clips. Ask to see their entire store so you can get an idea of where you would be leaving your baby. Don't ever just drop off a dog without looking the place over before you leave.

you can bring them to a groomer and get them trimmed down, so that they still look cute and yorkyish, but are much easier to maintain.
