What number blade do I need to buy to be able to cut the tip of my Yorkie’s ears?
Above poster… sorry but unless you are very experienced never use a #40 blade!
It can cause dreadful clipper rash, not to mention cutting the dogs skin if you do not know what you are doing. #40 is surgical, no hair at all and can be dangerous, my white boy gets a horrible rash after using one and he is done every few weeks… I had to switch to a #30 blade, not as smooth but it stopped the rashing.
If you have not clipped the ears before then I would ask a local groomer or vet to show you how to do it.
Start out with a longer blade like a #10 and as your dog gets used to it and you get more experienced you can progress to shorter blades.

10;the same one used for "sanitary",poodle feet,etc.
A #40 is INSANE!!!! It’s NOT being prepped for surgery, you imbecile!
References :
The top 1/3 of the ears are shaved clean with a # i5 on the backside of ear and #40 in the inside. Finish the edging of the tips with shears to make the neat triangle tips.
