why does this happen to my yorkie?

idk this is a weird question and my vet doesn't know why it happens

like when my puppy poops, it seems like he doesn't get it all the way off of his butt i guess and a piece sticks to his little butt hairs and i can't catch it until it dries. its happened three times now i think.

it hurts him so badly and he can't use the bathroom when it happens, and it is very painful to get it off of him and he cries and squeals so much.

its like it gets stuck in the hair so close to his skin and anus that i can't cut it with scissors or i'll cut him so i need to soak him in very warm water for like 15-20 minutes to soften ut up then i need to pull it off, which is painful for my puppy

btw hes a yorkie

whats up with this?

If you feed a high quality dry dog food this will not happen. I have been raising Yorkies for 25 plus years and the only time I have to clean bottoms is when my Mom comes to visit and feeds them table foods, caneed dog food, treats, etc. All of my Yorkies are in full coat and I do not clip any hair around that area.

Take him to a groomer and ask them to shave around the anus. That way nothing can get caught. :)

The hair around his little butt hole is too long, and so as the poo falls it sticks.

I used to breed maltese, they have the same issues as pups.

Give him a bath, get you some clippers, and ever so carefully, shave his little butt. Just around where it needs to be. The poo will quit sticking, he'll quit hurting, and you'll not have to soak his little tush after every poo. Makes life much easier.

Also with his longer hair, you'll want to scissor snip the hair on his pee pee short, as if that hair gets long, when he pees, it'll get up into his chest hair, and again, you are back to major Eww.

Wipe his butt every time he goes to the potty. I have to do this with my German Shep because of the thin hairs around his butt. He will come and stand by me and wait for me to do it. They even have doggie wipes (like baby wipes) that are meant for in between baths. These work well if it is really messy but a soft tissue works just fine.

first you should shave the hair around his anus and the problem will stop.

My Papillon is the same way. You probably need to take him to the groomers to get his hair cut around his butt hole.

This happens to my dog too and he is part yorkie. It used to break my heart when he would cry and stuff when I cleaned him up.

I told his groomer about the problem and she just shaved the fur around his bottom so that it was really short and that solved it.

It doesnt make the dog look bad as his tail hides it and it really did solve the problem.

If you dont take your dog to the groomer and you feel confident enough about doing it then you could try purchasing some doggy clippers and having a go yourself. It will not hurt them and considering how distressed the dog gets when he is in a mess then it really would be worth it.

This often happens with long haired dogs and hte best thing is to shave or have shaved around the anus and butt area.
