I was giving my dog a haircut for the first time and in all the how-tos, it said to shave his crotch area. I did it with the bare electric razor (like the one you would use for real hair). It is now all lumpy, red, and irritated. What should I do?

Gave My Yorkie a Haircut…?
Tuesday, July 7th, 2009Getting My Dog Spayed?
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009my yorkie is nearly 5 months and i want to get her spayed, the vet said it must be after 6 months, so should i get her done before she goes on heat or after. i have never had a bitch before only dogs so would like any opinions, or doesn't it really matter to her. Also shes going for a haircut on thursday as its very hot in London at the moment, what kinds of cuts look good on a yorkie, thankyou
I personally would say to a Responsible dog owner who was absolutely sure they would not allow their b*tch to get accidentally mated at the first heat, and I feel you are a responsible owner, that it is better to wait until after the first heat when you b*tch is fully mature. 6 weeks after the first heat is usually a good time.

See the link below for information regarding spaying and hope this helps. (I am also in the UK).
As regards the trim, most Yorkies have a "puppy trim" which is easy to care for and makes them look really cute.
OOOPS, sorry posted wrong link, now corrected.
My 13 Yr Old Dog Survived 4 Days in Below Zero Snow Blowing Weather! How?
Thursday, May 21st, 2009I have a 13 yr old schnouzer/ yorkie mix that escaped from our back yard last Monday evening. We live in MN and it was about 40 degrees that night and kind of drizzling so I don't think she was too cold when she first left. That's the only reason she leaves and not comes straight back in cuz she is usually cold having somewhat of a short haircut. Anyway, the temp dropped dramatically the next day and by Weds a snow storm moved in with blowing snow and it got to -10 for three nights in a row. We searched for her and called the shelter they would bring her too if she was picked up by the city. No luck. Friday it started to warm up. it got to about 40 and at noon the neighbor girl came to our door and asked if that was our dog and pointed a few houses down. I was shocked! I was for certain she had froze, was hit by a car or someone took her in (which was what I was hoping someone took her in). She was just stepping down from someones door just three houses down from ours. Like she was going to the door to get in. In the past she had come back after about three hours and had scratched at the front door. I think this is what she was doing and may have been lost and confused. She was skinny, and stumbling like her hips hurt and I'm sure she was dehydrated. My question..what could she have done out there to survive?! I have heard of dogs surviving in situations like this. Any ideas how? It was a miracal! She is acting more and more like herself now. I was almost sure she would come down with pneumonia or something
Why don't you go out and look for her when she escapes? And if she's done it before, why didn't you secure the fence?
She probably did get taken in, or fed by someone. There are a lot of places small animals can go for shelter, such as under bushes, in garages or under cars. Snow provides water and some dogs dogs can hunt when hungry, but if you live in a populated area, there's always food lying around somewhere.
I hope you took her to the vet for a once over after you got her back.
Anyone Know Any Yorkie Haicuts?
Tuesday, May 19th, 2009Anyone have any links for some cute yorkie haircuts? Her hair can't be super long and can't have that little bow in it.
thanx
I would recommend a "puppy cut"
It's cute, short and still has that adorable yorkie look. Plus you don't have to have a bow in her hair because it's not in her face.
Hope that helps!

Problems With a Skiddish Yorkie Haircut?
Thursday, May 7th, 2009I have a 3 year old yorkie, who is skiddish around everything. he is a very lovable dog, but has gotten a series of bad, or half finished haircuts, simply cause he cannot sit still long enough to finish a cut. he is ok about his back and belly, but around his face he pulls and jerks away. my wife and i cut our other yorkie with no problems. Is there anything that i can do to calm him, or relax him, or even expedite his next haircut? mojo would greatly appreciate any help i can get.
You can try conditioning your dog to the clippers and to the clippers being near his face. There are a few ways you can do this. First take the clippers while they are off and touch them to his face the way you would if they were on. Give him a treat if he lets you touch his face with them. Or if your wife is around, have her hold a treat while your dog chews on it and you put the clippers to your dogs face as if you were trimming his face. You can also just have the clippers on in front of him without advancing towards him while feeding him treats. This just makes the clippers positive. It may take many days to finally get him to be relaxed under these conditions.
If you continue to have a hard time, you could just try using scissors to trim his face. Hold the hair under his chin to try and keep him still.
Good luck!
Yorkie Puppy Haircut?
Tuesday, March 17th, 2009how old is too old for a puppy cut or is there no age for it because my yorkie/maltese is 3yrs old and i think that the puppy ccut looks better then the really long hair
is she too old for it
is it called puppy cut because they get that when they are a puppy or because they make the hair look like when they were a puppy
I have 2 Yorkies that are 6 years old. I usually keep them in a puppy cut. It's alot easier to look after than long hair.
Also you could try a schnauzer cut. That looks really cute on Yorkies too.
My groomer says a puppy cut for Yorkies IS called a puppy cut. It is called either.
My Grandmas Dog Needs Help!?
Monday, March 16th, 2009Unfortunately my grandmother slipped and broke her ankle on Thanksgiving morning. She has been in a wheelchair since she got back from the hospital a few days later. She has a little yorkie that she loves a lot but can't take care of as well now that she is handicapped (she should be out of the wheelchair and just with a cast in a few weeks… but she is 92 anyway). Little Shanti is full of matted fur. She usually gets a haircut in spring anyway, but I am wondering if we should bring her to get a haircut NOW or if I should try to cut some matts out? We live in NH and the weather has been BRUTAL, so I don't want her to freeze. I feel like it would be too painful to brush them all out. I live 2 hours away but I am visiting her this weekend, and I would really like to help out.
Advice?
Thank you!
She does have sweaters and jackets… I think what I will do is cut put the bad matts, brush her the best I can, and give her a nice massage/bath with doggie conditioner. She will stay still- she is a really good little girl.
matted hair is in fact a nuisance and hard to get rid of.
,when it is really cold, don't go for a haircut, or if you go
for a haircut you will have to buy a dog's coat to warm it.
cutting out mats is difficult and you could hurt the dog as it
certainly will not keep still. of course you can try to get rid
of some mats by cutting not too close to the skin, but you
need a second person to hold the dog while you cut.
better wait or go to the salon, have a cut and buy a coat.
Yorkshire Russell Haircut?
Saturday, February 28th, 2009We have a Yorkie Russell, and we’re thinking of having her hair cut. How much would it cost in England?
I have two yorkies and found a great groomer who comes to the house which is ideal as I don’t have to stress the pups out.
Try looking in the classified ads of your local paper in the pets section, thats where I found our groomer, she only charges £13 total for both dogs.
WHERE SHOULD I TAKE MY 9 MOTH YORKIE for HIS FIRST HAIRCUT?
Thursday, February 26th, 2009
i live in san francisco ca
My husband is in the army and we move a lot so I'm always looking for a new vet and groomer for my yorkie. When I move to a new town, I always to talk to the local pet store owners. They usually know which vets are great and which ones arent. Same with groomers. None of them have ever given me bad recommendations.
Also, many vets have groomers on staff. So if you like your vet, try their groomer out too. And dont worry, the hair always grows back.
What Type of Dog Would Be Better for Me a Yorkie or a Long-Haired Dachshund?
Friday, December 26th, 2008I want the one that is easier to take care of. There are three people in our house a thirteen year old a 11 year old and a 42 year old plus we have a five year old cat. I'm willing to groom my dog but I mean I don't wanna give it constant haircuts. It also needs to be easy to train in everything and can be left home while we're at school with it's toys. (that's six hours)
P.S. I'll give it one hour long walk a day.
P.S.S. It can't get motion sick.
For grooming requirements: The doxie. For potty training and general training, the Yorkie. For motion sickness, you're out of luck. It depends upon the individual dog.
