Which Breed Is Better for Me-a Yorkie or Pomeranian?

I am 13 years old and I desperatley want a puppy. I am stuck on what breed I want. A Yorkshire Terrier, or a Pomeranian?

I go to school Monday-Friday at 9:00 to 3:10. My dad may be home during the day, he doesn't have a usual time sheduele. My mom is home until 1pm on Fridays. Somebody is ALWAYS home on weekends. I have no problem getting a neighbor to check on the puppy every so often.

I have experience with Yorkshire Terriers, very cute and lovable breed. They can be aggressive at times, but they are very playful and cute. I have no experience however with pomeranians.

I don't mind giving a weekly bath, haircut, or any other grooming if needed. I am willing to walk the dog as long as needed and I am also willing to play with him a lot. I am also getting a boy puppy for sure.

Please share your stories, experiences, and any other things you want to share with me. Please tell me which breed is better suited for my schedule and lifestyle.

Too bad you changed your mind about the SHih Tzu but out of the two now, I would go with the Yorkie since the Pom will shed like crazy and the Yorkie won't shed at all. They both are yappy though.

Good luck with getting your puppy it is such an exciting time! I would advice you get a yorkie for your first dog. Poms need alot of grooming and can be a little nervous.

Pomeranian only because my grandma has one and he very sweet.

They are sweet, playful, and energetic dogs.

They are more active than a Yorkie and more fun to play with.

i love pomeranians and yorkies alot. i have had a yorkie and the same type of schedule wit my family and they dont like to be home by themselves but if you can get someone to play with him and stuff if your not home thatn woudl be good. pomeranians are very good dogs they really dont have problems when you leave them home alone and are very easy to train but they need to be taken care of well aas far as batheing goes and brushing their hair and that type of stuff because of their fur. i have one and they are very good dogs. i hope this helps!!

Both are really nice, and both female and male on both are SUPER sweet. Facts:Build: Tiny, compact
    Weight: 3-7 pounds (1-3 kg.)
    Height: 7-12 inches (18-30 cm.)
    Coat: Profuse stand-off double coat
Color: Any, but usually red, orange, white or cream, blue, brown or black
Head: Wedge-shaped, with fox-like, “baby doll” face
    Teeth: Scissors bite
Eyes: Bright, dark, almond-shaped, with an intelligent expression
    Ears: Pointed, erect
    Tail: Feathered, fanning over back
    Limbs: Straight and parallel
    Feet: Compact
    Life span: Median 9-15 years
So I would choose a Pomeranian.

Little dogs are usually harder to train. And terriers tend to be on the aggressive side. My parents surviving yorkie, jumanji, likes to kill baby rabits and other rodents, if he gets the chance. But, of course, the yorkies were breed for this. My parents bought a yorkie when I was 12. It took 5 years to train her. I am 24 now. One of the puppy's she had we kept and it took 5 years to train him as well. Actually, neither of them were allowed upstairs because they would still go up there and poop and pee. My mom even bought books on yorkies and red them cover to cover. In the books it said that yorkies are hard to train and mostly have to be confined to a part of the house because the space is so large, they can afford to use it as a toilet and never have to spend time there. My grandparents have a pom and he still isn't trained. He is 3 years old. I personally, have two jack russells. Sophie is 6 and Tito is 4. Both were hous trained within the first two weeks of having them. I have had 2 or 3 accidents with Sophie in her enitire 6 going on 7 years of life and no accidents with Tito in his entire 4 going on 5 years of life. I think with either a yorkie or pom you will just have to be EXTREMELY watchful and make sure that as soon as they eat or drink they go outside and do not come in until they have done their business. This is so they associate eating and drinking with outside. This includes going out in the middle of the night, because little dogs have very little bladders and cannot hold it as long as a larger breed dog can. Also, I would recommend getting your dog in the spring or summer so the puppy does not decide he hates going outside cause it's cold and snowy, this is of course depending on where you live. So, if I had to choose between a yorkie and pom, I would choose a yorkie. I personally do not like poms. Every pom I have known and seen is snippy. This is just my experience. Good luck!

i dont matter but w/e you get DONT get it from a breeder -_-
i've had the WORST experiance with breeders
i've had 3 dogs from breeders
one i COULDNT house train for nothing and yes i've house trained dogs before
the other was mean as hell and we took her to training classes and everything as a puppy we did everything in the book she got so mean we had to give her back to the breeder (no it wasn't a pitbull)
the other dog was so un preditable(sp?) one minute she'd be fine around other dogs and the next she'd go after the dog and try to kill it (no that wasn't a pitbull either)

i've had my fair share of dogs i know how to take care of them i have 2 right now both from shelter best dogs ever
they were bought as puppies so they werent already trained
i think the dogs i got from the breeders were in breed idk

I dont know anything about the other breed of dog but i own two yorkshire terriers and they are fantastic dogs, i got them when they were 8 weeks old, one male who is now 6, and one female who is now 5. they are great pets and are fantastic watch dogs but be very careful not to spoil them like i did, make sure you teach it toilet traing from the first day and buy a clicker to help you train him! yorkshire terriers are one of the few breeds that do not cast hair aswell so your parents will be pleased that they dont need to pick hair from everything, they are great dogs and they are what you make them!.
I hope i have gave you some help, dont hesitate to contact me if you need more advice.
