Does anyone know of any health issues or any other problems with a Yorkie/MinPin puppy?

Im looking at buying a Yorkie/MinPin puppy. I want a small dog that i dont have to take to the groomers but is really good with kids and other people.

That particular mix is called a "yorkie pin" by designer breeds.
As its new and such, there's not much known about their health issues.

and look up the health on both breeds and behavior problems…thats the best i can tell you.

Also, take a look around at the animal shelter, they might have a low maintance dog breed, that is small and great with kids that needs a good home.

Other breeds:
rat terriers- easy grooming!
great with kids and is small! Great personality!

NOTHING REALLY UNLESS YOUR GOING TO BREED THEM THEN THEY BOTH USUALLY REQUIRE C-SECTION BIRTHS…THE ARE PRONE TO UPPER RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS BUT CAN BE PREVENTED WITH PROPER VACINES AND EASILY TREATED WITH ANTIBIOTICS

I used to have a min pin mix. He did not have any health problems. But I do know that min pins are great escape artists. He used to get through the fence all the time. And when my neighbors had him, he broke through her fenced in porch to come to the house. He was just a little thing.

I don't think they have any serious health issues.

Yorkies need a lot of grooming. Mixing it with a minpin means that could go 1 of 3 ways. You could get plain yorkie hair, you could get plain minpin hair, or you could get a really weird mixture of the 2.

Why not just get a minpin? That way, you know exactly what you are getting.

Being as both are Toy breeds, there are a few issues inherent in Toy dogs.

1) Luxating patellas - the kneecap in Toy dogs can 'slip', that is, fall out of the trochlear groove. It can range from minor (slips out occassionally but goes back into place on it's own) to serious (permanently luxated and/or fused). Everything beyond a grade 1 will require surgery, and the surgery ranges from $1200 to $2500 per leg and require 12 weeks rehabilitation.

2) Dental issues - all Toy dogs are prone to poor dental health. They should have their teeth brushed daily.

3) Yorkies are known for Liver Shunts…. I would be suspicious of a TeaCup (grr…. fancy names to market an undesirable trait), for example, as a sign of a shunt is stunted growth and an overall unthriftyness.

4) Min Pins can suffer from Megaesophogus, where the dog cannot eat properly and regurgitates solid food. Some can be maintained on a liquid diet, some die.

5) tracheal collapse - both breeds can have problems with this

By getting a mix, you may get any of the conditions in either breed, or a combination of both. if you are very lucky you will get none.

If you're looking for a small dog you don't have to take to the groomers. . . what's wrong with just a min pin? I'm confused how a Yorkie/min pin is going to solve that problem — Yorkie hair isn't exactly no-maintenance.

My min pin needs a bath when she's been rolling in something stinky and brushed when she's getting too many little hairs all over me. Both are just a few times a year.

Min pins are fast, wonderful escape artists, and only good with kids and other people if they're properly socialized. Oh, and they like to tell you everything that's going on outside! They're fairly healthy and good company IF you get one from a decent breeder, though.

Good breeders generally don't do mixed breeds, though!!!

These so called designer breeders are just puppy mills. Puppy mills don't selectively breed so the chances of your puppy having health problems are significantly higher than they would be if you bought a puppy from a quality breeder. If you insist on having a mixed breed, go to the shelter. There are enough mutts in this world that are waiting to adopted at a shelter. If you buy one from a puppy mill, you're just allowing a sheltered dog to go without a home and probably be euthanized. Please don't buy a designer breed, it's just a euphemism for mutt anyway.
