How Can I Get My Yorkie Puppy's Ear to Stand Up?

I have a 13 week old yorkie puppy. One of his ears is standing up like it is supposed to. The other one is flopped over. I was told by the breeder to massage the ear but that is not working. I was also told to have the hair shaved so it would be easier for it to stand, but nothing seems to work. Any suggestions????

The Vet I used to work for world use a tongue depressor, cotton, and vet wrap to train the ears to stand. Cut the tongue depressor to the length of the ear then wrap it in the cotton and hold it in place with medical tape, place it in the fold of the ear. Use the vet wrap to keep it in the ear. It looks funny at first but it will train the muscles in the ear to hold it upright. Try to keep it taped up for abut 2 weeks. If it wants to lay odd with the depressor in it,you can tape the ears together. You do not want to clip the ears on a Yorkie. That should only be a last resort.

My dog's ears stand up. They coould've been floppy but we didn't want that. His ears got clipped when he was a baby so that his ears would stand up for the rest of his life because they weren't as big. I think that's whatt u gotta do. Shaving his ears won't do sh!t

    Starch it!

To be honest, when I've had puppies like that the problem has gone after a couple of weeks – one ear is just slower to pop up than the other, that's all.

Clip the hair off the edges of his ear. The cartilage may be broken down.My shepherd had the same problem and her ear never stood up.

Yorkies and Chihuahuas get floppy ears at that age and most will stand on their own in a few weeks, but you can fold the ear in half and tape them with a bit of clear tape and this usually only takes 7 days to train the ear to stand. ( Fold ear long ways in an upright possession.) If you are unsure, have your vet show you how to do it the first time. (Also called rolling the ear)

This is totally just a problem with puppies. My dog had an ear like that, limp, and looked very asymmetrical. He grew out of it though as he got older. No docking or vet required – pups just go through a "limp ear" stage but will come out of it just fine on their own.
